all the powers to say there is no age discrimination , if that is the case why do jobcentre.s, work programme and alike tell you not not to put date of birth on CV , or if youahve it on CV tell you to take it off

Yes bob age discrimination is rife when looking for a start, even more now when there is no mandatory retirement age

we get CV's every week. I hate the fact that hardly anyone puts a date of birth or age on.
as I said before the JOBCENTRE AND WORK PROGRAMMES ADVISORS ARE TELLING PEOPLE TO TAKE THEM OFF. THE WORK PROGRAMME I WAS ON ASKED ME FOR MY CV SO THEY COULD LOOK AT AND AMEND IF NEEDED AND WHEN I GOT MY MEMORY STICK BACK THEY HAD TAKEN D.O.B OFF WHEN I ASKED WHY THEY SAID EMPLOYERS DO NOT WANT IT ON. I SOON PUT IT BACK ON CV

whats the point in them telling you to take it off? first thing an employer wants to know is how old you are??

and with any sense at all, look at when you left school on a CV and you know how old they are. Why not stick it at the top of a CV and save the employer the hassle.

totally daft IMHO.

Age Related...

I have noticed that on the building sites we are on, out of the sparkies, plumbers, brickies etc, 80% seem to be in their late forties, early fifties with very few youngsters in the trades. Does anyone else notice this, i think in 10-15 years we might have a shortage of skilled workers in the industry...

yes noticed it myself regarding skill shortage we have lost loads of skilled workers more so up here in the north east ie shipyards /underground pit lads /manufacturing etc etc

times are a changing for the better or worse ???.

Age discrimination has always existed and always will. An employer has a picture of the person they want and age of that person matters. Legislation doesn't matter so long as it is not broadcast openly that the organisation is ageist. NISSAN did it for long enough and possibly still does it. A former colleague was so incensed by this he got a letter translated in Japanese (which cost a bomb) to send to NISSAN head office in Japan. He was very put out when the reply came back - yes you guessed it written in Japanese :D He had to pay again to have it translated back into English :o
