An earlier than normal start due to low water at the Marina, although both "Famous" and "Ali-Cat" have very similar drafts, leaving on low water certainly stirs up the slit in the channel.
So off we set at 6:30am into a very dull, grey and overcast day, with the threat of rain during the day.

With the sea in perfect condition, Dave had decided to try some wrecks for starters, so off we went travelling parallel with the coast for a few miles heading south to our first wreck.

Along with the Mackerel, which were available all day if you needed fresh bait, up came a nice clean cod around the 10lb mark on the first drift.
We tried a few more drifts but moved on to another soon after.
This second move resulted in a few more smaller fish coming in, but after numerous drifts, off we set to some rough ground.

Fishing improved immediately with some nice fish coming onboard, the lads on the back of the boat fished bait all day and their return in fish was stunning.
Best was this beauty coming in between 16/17lbs on the boat scales.

The stamp of fish caught today was excellent, Three 10lb, Two 12lb, One 14½lb One 15lb and the beauty above, AND Two catfish, some nice Haddock, Ling well in excess of 12lb and lots and lots of cod upwards of 5lb.
In total of good sized fish, well over 110 fish on board, with lots of decent sized fish going back.

It fished steady all day, no hectic bursts of madness, just steady consistency, Once again full marks to Dave our Skipper who worked his socks off to do the business.

And here’s a coincidence, there was a post on here last week about a lad losing his rod and reel, well! didn’t it happen yesterday, John next to me let slip, Rod and reel went over, everybody who could tried to snag it but it went, 10/15 minutes later on the same drift, a lad at the back brings up John’s rod and reel, Never seen a bigger smile for a long time, hope he put the Lottery on.

Lots of smiley happy people again, even me with 8 cod between 6-8lb and 6 cracking Ling all around 9-10lb.

That was me filleting till yon time last night again, but freezer nearly full, so its time for sport fishing soon.

Until next time tight lines lads.

Hi Gary
Nice to read that you've been out and done the business, absolutely right about the area fishing well, and the fish are nice, clean and fresh run.
Been a slow start to the season, but fingers crossed as always, I think we are on the way now.
Keep them coming.

Excellent report John, really great read.
Some fine specimens there with several in the doubles, great stuff :)
Here's hoping they spread a little northerly for the tyne boats :) not that it's been bad up here we have decent catches but Hartlepool seems to be doing the business just A1 at the moment.

Great report mate, I look forward to the next one.
