Am I the unluckiest

As title says really how is your luck lads, mines well I don't have any luck so it seems. I posted a catch report a few weeks back where I had caught a cod that I lost on top of the water when it had a last gasp run for it and it unhooked itself and swam off.

Nothing much has changed, Saturday fished Dunstanburgh Castle with Mike (Thunderpants) and it was slow all day, we both blanked, great day great company great location just no fish. I did however get 1 fish on but again as usual for me anyway it had a fit on top of water and off it went, it looked like a wrasse, very dark brown.

Today I thought I would see if any cod kicking about down the walkway, I got to walkway about 5.50 and had nothing, not a bite, not even a crabby nibble until 8 just after Julio Geordio turned up at walkway. I had the big rod with a pulley pennel loaded with runnydown, mussel and peeler, can you guess what happened.? :o

Yeah big nod on rod tip, winding in it felt heavy and I got it to top of water nice size cod, grin on my face I was as chuffed as puff with a bag of d***s. Leader knot gets to tip ring, usually after the initial stop it will slide into the ring, (no puns intended):D today though with my cod on it snapped and sploosh lost the lot. :mad2:

So am I the unluckiest here at nesa, have you got worse luck than me, go on cheer me up. :)

BTW I didn't blank today I caught a solitary whiting to beat my blanking streak lol.

I can't beat that Pete, even though my fishing has been poor lately, at least you've had a cod on your line!
Chin up and keep at it and you'll get the biggie:D
It's not from lack of trying.

Hard lines mate. When that happens to me I quickly let a tiny bit line back out and reel back in again quickly, normally works like mate as yer taking a bit pressure of the rod momentarily, got to be quick though:) Obviously the fish has still got to be in the water when yer doing this which is why yer shocker should be of adequate length for the venue

hahaha one of them times we have all had them 2 weeks ago i had 4 crack offs in a row lol

Ive had my fair share of cod/codlings over the past few weeks although ive lost 2 fish from shields pier estimated between 5-6lb on too seperate occasions

Dont worry mate your luck will change soon enough

Unfortunatley i know where your coming from mate. I lost a few good fish last winter.

I'm sure there will be a pig with your name on it this year though.

Whoah so close and yet so far. Hard lines Pete, I've lost a few biggies in my time too. There's the four big pollack in Scotland last month that got off my line, two of them right at my feet  and the fish of a lifetime lost off Chesil beach last December that had my beach caster doubled over until I pulled the hook out of it's gob. :o Aaarrgh. Don't worry mate next time you will get him! Try using heavy line straight through then you won't have a leader knot to cause problems. I tend to do that when theres a lot of weed about. Yeah we blanked at Dunstanburgh but it was a great day out. That was definately a wrasse that fell off your hook nothing else is that shape and colour that I can think of.

Yeah Pete, hard lines mate.... at least you caught something!! El Blanko for me lol.

Just the luck of the draw with some decent fish, depends on where they take the hook and all sorts..... your luck has to change sometime mate!!

Did you not go back down at low water to get it back off the rocks? lol.

Next time you and Thunderpants are off somewhere give me a shout mate, will take a wander along if im free, My poor fishing will make you both look good lol

So I'm not the only unlucky one then lol, I might go for that 30/35lb line straight through actually Mike. I have been unlucky not to catch any decent cod the last 2 seasons and now this season catching them I can't be losing any more lol.

Is 30lb straight through safe to cast with a 5oz lead, I'm guessing just an overhead lob should be fine and using a rotten bottom link.

Pete, I used to fish with 3olb straight through and a 5oz lead without any problems mate, so long as your not power casting it should be fine.

Dont ever remember having a snap off using 30lb line....

Yeah Marc you can tag along though I'm about done with spinning for this year. I am giving it one last go next week pollack fishing in the Hebrides (Mull) then will probably put the spinning gear away until next year. Time to get out the thermals and go bait fishing again :)

LOL I thought about it but there was a few old fellas came to fish where I was when I was leaving.

Yeah mate will give you a shout, there has to be a biggun out there for us.

Pete I use 35lb with a 6oz lead and have never had a crack off. I'm no power caster though but do chuck it as far as I can.

Nice one Mike thanks, I might just go with the 30 straight through with 5oz to start with but its an extra option like, good luck in the mull mate.
