It was a glorious morning, flat calm with blue skies, with very light westerlies, so I decided to take Bellini out for an afternoon session, but aware the wind would pick up later, I didn't venture too far. It seems loads of others had the same idea - the sea was full of other boats. I managed to tuck in close to Bondicarr, and within half-an-hour I had some nice fish. The first one, a 3 pounder chomped off half my lure, so I continued with just the stump, and took a further 2 pounder and it then worked its magic with a cod that I measured as 72 cm and weighed at just over 7 pounds. It was a great start. All the fish went back too.

Things slowed down a touch then, with just another 4 smaller codling, but then got another fish of 63 cm, followed by a further 15 codling, measuring between 30 cm and 48 cm. There was a further codling of 53 cm, but by now the winds had whipped up an uncomfortable chop, so at 6pm I headed back in, hoping to catch a couple of mackerel off Coquet Island. The only thing I managed to catch was my finger with a hook!

Fortunately, Oli was coming up for a bass fishing session, which I successfully screwed up. He met me at the pontoon and after trying to remove the hook himself finally conceded defeat and took me to Ashington Emergency Care where they swiftly got rid of it. It was too close to the nail they said for self-removal!

Nice fish lads, I missed the fine weather again :(

Out of interest I have just googled removing a hook. Looks easy on another person ;)

Hope it heals quick
