Taking advantage of the less windy conditions forecast for Sunday morning Ian and myself launched around 6.15am
I had previously checked the conditions around 5am and it looked inviting.

I had guests coming up to caravan at lunchtime so we couldn't go too far and drifted around the north side of Coquet island. Finding little reefs / kelp beds in around 20-30 foot of water.
Struggled for the first hour as the wind was still blowing a bit and moving us along at a fair pace, lost numerous sets of gear for no fish.
The wind did eventually subside and we picked up a couple of Mackerel and I got a small codling on prawn baited cod feathers.

We both decided to switch to lures and we opened a box of assorted cheap TEMU shads and they caught fish. Ian got the first, a nice Kelpy cod and I picked one up slightly smaller one a few minutes later. Another order going into TEMU very soon
Lures you can afford to lose

We drifted out into some deeper water around 45 foot and tried again with prawn bait but had no joy. Visibility was pretty good though and I saw a large flatfish following my baited cod feathers up out of the depths. It kept swimming right up to the bait then stopping as I jigged away trying to get it to bite. Eventually it lost interest and swam back down. Was more diamond shaped than round so probably just a large flounder.
Headed back in towards Warkworth beach around 10.30 to have a quick try for a Turbot but had no luck. Only 1 Codling and 2 Mackerel kept, I returned all my fish. Cod were all coughing up crab.
Still learning the ropes but getting a bit more confidence, was a lovely morning to be out.
