Amble pier.

I`m taking the grandson to Amble to spend a couple of hours on the pier tomorrow. I`ve got some lug and rag and some mackerel for bait. Just want to know if I need any other bait and what`s being caught, if anything. It`s only the second time I will have taken the grandson and last time he had a cracking flounder around the 1lb mark, I had nothing. I just hope that he catches again as he is really keen at the moment but I`m worried if he doesn`t catch he might give it up and start playing football or chasing girls or whatever it is that 12 year old boys get up to nowadays.
Any advice greatfully received.

Haven't heard any reports about the pier for a few weeks, so don't know what's being caught (if anything!)

The baits you have will be fine...try dropping a cast straight down the side of the pier, you never know what's close in, and don't automatically head for the end, some of the better flatties are taken about the half way mark (where the life preserver is hanging).

lol my dad used to tell my of the so called monsters he used to catch off the pier. you should take him during macky season and let him catch hundereds it wil get him much more interested

Another spot to consider is Craster Pier over high water. Had some good ones there. No rails so have to watch the kids and might not be suitable if they're young and lively

I've always done this at the harbours since being a kid - used to fish with the couple who lived next door and the lady always used nothing but a handline down the side, she caught more than anyone else, finally cottoned on that the structure is covered in food so it's obvious the fish will be attracted to it!
