yet another angler was badly hurt yesterday off steetly, fishing off the end he stepped backwards and fell through a man hole with no cover, stolen by the retards that steal any metal without any thought of the consequences they cause, he fell 50 foot broke his back and pelvis and would have went under if it wasn't for his floatation suit, he also had the sense of mind at the time to kick his heavy boots of to stop them dragging him down, he is in a bad state but will pull through, lads be careful out there.

Hi paul, is this not the same lad that fell there the other neet, reports on other sites say he was wearing a floatie and has the same injuries. Fella has been named as Ian McAllister.

If its dark it is difficult to get your co-ordinates.I fished up by the fishing ramparts on steetly a few weeks ago and nearly put my foot through a hole in the pier where some planks were holed. I have no doubt i would probs have broke a leg if i had.
Mick.

:oHey lads tek it canny doon there man! av seen that pier on tv, it looks f**king lethal, we don't want anymore bad news in this decade reet!!!!;)

I don't think there is a half chance of that happening Harry, well, the second part anyway mate.

I remember years ago before Amble pier was repaired, at the end of the breakwater there were some railings with wooden planks in front of them and steps down to the water underneath. We fished there regularly for years, one night my mate turned round to look for something and bang straight down with one leg. He was a big lad and was very lucky he didn't break his leg but we all knew it was there. Switch off for just a second and it can be very bad, as this poor lad found out.

Jim.

I have never fished this pier and never even walked along it, but what I've heard there is a 5ft dia hole uncovered with a long drop to sea wards.
I would say a death trap at night in poor visibility not just for the angler but what about kids wandering on anytime.
And lets add a bit bad weather, strong winds, heavy seas, sleet and snow, ice to make slippery surfaces worse,I wouldn't go near it if they paid me to.
No doubt a good fishing spot but unsafe to fish from or even walk along.
Sorry needs closing down for everyone's sake.

I agree Harry ...safety first as recent incidents have shown, just not worth it for a few fish, steetly should be closed.

I would expect that there will be pressure on the owners of Steetly to close it now Harry, No doubt there will be lots of people complaining if or when it does happen but it is far too dangerous to stay open. I haven't fished it either Harry and the chances of me fishing it in the future are zero, that would be the same even if I was fit enough too.

Jim.

you are probably right jim it will get closed, it's a shame though i have fished it for years and only up to three years ago i would have said it was one of the safest piers i have ever fished ,metal railings all the way round [now gone nicked]they even built platforms half way along with seat especially for anglers, [all gone and the boards ripped up] all the metal manhole covers on the concrete block at the end have been stolen, will i stop fishing there, probably, yet i know like many other anglers that on it's day when the cod come on you can't get a better venue anywhere, ask jay the manager of nets in one night session he had 58 cod up to 15lbs, my best was 13 up to 9,1/2lbs, the biggest bass caught on the n,e coast was landed on the steetly 14,1/2lbs, i have even seen thornback rays pulled up, that's why lads will keep on fishing there even after this terrible accident.

I understand what your saying Paul and it is a shame this pier in in the state of disrepair but we the angler have got to be more responsible,we are putting our lives at risk and more so the lives of the rescue services that have to respond in these situations.
