Another decent session at Hebburn

I headed down to Hebburn Marina about nine o'clock this morning, very cold and the river was flat still. Loads of small codling with the tide coming up, then bang on high water I hooked into a good fish, turned out to be a codling just over the 3.5 pound mark. Thought it was bigger on the retrieve but still happy with that.
A couple more small codling and two flatties after that, then the rubbish started to be a nuisance as the tide started to ebb.
Canny little session with all fish returned alive, although one tiny codling lay on the surface for about an hour before all of a sudden springing to life and swimming off.
Bait used was fresh lug and frozen blacks, most fish taken on the fresh.
Lovely day to be out with no wind and plenty sunshine.

There were loads of cars at the top car park. Were there many fishing the stone jetty or were they all sightseeing the final scene in the Hebburn TV series?:D

Nice codling Mark.... think you have more sized ones than me now! bugger..... ;)

Must get my ass down Hebburn again, only a 5min drive aswell......

Pulled out another 2 pounder tonight from the same spot. Loads more tommys and a good size flatty. No pics as it was chucking it down and I didn't want to get my phone drenched.

That's an absolutely cracking fish mate, well done.

If I remember rightly from previous posts you are really making this mark your own, any tips for a novice on this place.....rigs, baits, casting distance....etc?

Cheers and congrats again

I'm no expert mate and people might have better methods but this is how I fish the Tyne.
2 rods. 13ft rod casted just short of the middle with a 2/0 or 3/0 hook on a pulley rig.
2nd rod 11ft and casted out about 10-20 yards with a two hook flapper, size 1 hooks and a lighter sinker.
Seems like one day the longer rod catches and next day the shorter one, best to cover both eventualities.
Crab is the best bait but lug is doing the trick at the minute.
Hope this helps and good luck.
Mark.

Yeah mate, thought it was you I spoke to:red: didn't realize there were three of you and I didn't know your faces. Talked to the other two lads when they left.
