Good luck fella, I was going to head over myself tonight - but decided to leave it until 8ish on Thursday - so how did you get on?

well drove down to pier at about 9 last night and it was heaving, didnt even get out the car just drove back home, i need to find somewhere a bit more quiet to catch a few mackerel for the barbie me thinks!!!!!

Aye, that's why I am heading out in the morning rather than tomorrow night, I reckon that it should be quieter. I have stuck a days holiday in at work and figure going on a morning during the week it should be fairly quiet (not sure if I am going to do Roker or Shields yet - might even give both a try!)

That's what I thought the other week mate, when I got on end of pier they had a tent up and were camping out. :D

Its shocking isnt it, my 9 year old son is dying to go but there is no way i would take him down there with 6 ounce sinkers getting flung about with streams of daylights, Would love to find somewhere to take him spinning that isnt chokka and has a good chance of mackerel, i took a drive to frenchmans point the other day hoping that would be empty, but even that had a good few people on it!!!!:(

The mornings aren't any better mate on the piers.... I was down yesterday ay 06:30am and there were 12/15 lads fishing already. SSP has been fishing well right the way along though... most lads are going straight to the end but I have seen fish from the brigade hut (start of pier) right through too the end.... worth a shot still.

I take it Roker will be just the same on a morning then? Might give Roker a try first, then head back up to Shields on the way home. Knowing my luck I will end up in the water as I try to get round the gate! :D

Try taking him just past the brigade hut on ssp , there is a fairly safe ledge to stand on and not over crowded with plonkers
