another mackrel post

a couple of questions on macky from a novice , 1 when does the mackrel season finish (ie can you still catch them when the chava's are gone) & where do they go ?. 2 what are everyones views on the way you catch them ? this is is my first year sea fishing properly and i have tried spinner & feathers the spinner was great sport catching one only, but with feathers & catching three at once i felt the fish were fighting each other & i was just hauling them in . what do you lads prefer ?? (all fish caught were for the table / winter bait)

i use spinner and a 3 hook flasher/hockie/feather its great sport if you get all 4 hooks taken on light spinning gear
every mackie i take home is eaten or frozen for the winter

the chavs are always spoiling the mackie fishing and they leave what they catch or throw them at each other (tossers)

they usualy leave our peirs/shores around mid september
there is still the odd one caught but the shoals head out

as for where they go im not 100% sure warmer waters ??

I prefer a spinner on a light rod, I'm not after big numbers of them, just enough for a couple of meals and the sport/fight is a nice bonus that comes with it.

I think the reason that people object to beachcasters and strings of daylites is the fact that the Charvas use them to haul them in by the hundreds then waste them - it is a quick way of catching loads quickly, but if you want some sport then light tackle is the way forward

Try float fishing for them with a light spinning rod and a sliding float method. You'll only catch one at a time, and you will probabaly miss more bites than you hook, but trust me it beats constantly casting and re-casting. Very relaxing and rewarding method of catching them. As for bait ? use a strip of mackerel belly or herring.doesn't realy matter as long as its fish. Iv'e even caught them on a strip or rainbow trout.

yeah tried the float baza , never had a bite on saying that i was spinning beforehand with no luck . its mad how on a pier like blyth some people are puling them in and 40 feet way no bites even with trying various depths etc it allways seems to be the chavas catching and not the anglers

You could try rubbing your spinner down your pants, the chavs always have their hands down there and catch plenty mackerel, they must like cheese lmao

chavs catch more than others becos they have been studying and planning all winter preparing for there hot summer days and nights, meeting there buddies down the marks and getting monged ,hopefully they find a warmer place come the bitter nights

love the winter, freezing cold, a force 8 northerly and sleet coming at you horizontaly and guess what as if by magic all the chav,s suddenly disappear,fishing heaven.
