Hi All, I'm currently in negotiations for a Merry Fisher 635 and it has a 105 hp Volvo TAMD22P-B engine fitted with 305 hours on the clock. Has anyone got any views on this engine.....PS i'm boatless and desperate.....:(

From the research i have done that is a very good engine and will do hundreds of hours more.

305 hours is nothing at all for a engine never mind a D one, Mine has done 400hours now.

Just check all of the normal things on a engine, only thing i found bad press about this engine was they dont have a over heating gauge and before the temp light comes on the damage can be done but that is nothing really.

If its a good price go for it, 12k to 18k max the lad i spoke with was doing in his but he kept it at 14k for best fuel v speed.

Hi Richie, The boat is a 1998 and had one owner from new and is supposed to be in top condition, everyone seems to prefer the nanni but the prices of the newer models are out of my price range. I was wondering if there is that much difference apart from the number of cylinders. It will be my first boat with an inboard diesel. do you do your own sevicing and are the filters oil etc expensive.....?

Dont get me wrong i have only owned my boat 3 years now but yes i/we do the servicing.

Change oil £25
oil filter £7
fuel filter £5.50
inline filter £12

fan belt every so often (done mine once)
coolant check (once a year)

Only hard(ish) part is when you change the fuel filter you need to bleed the air out the system.

1998, not sure due to the age, all depends how the baot has been looked after...best get someone that has ownd a baot have a look or better still pay the money and get the boat checked out by a pro.

I have a nanni and to honest they will run and run but i would rather not have one due to the price of parts if anythign does go wrong.

Thats what i was thinking 1998 is older than i would have liked, the servicing is cheap compared to outboards though. Think i'll grit my teeth and wait till a 2002 - 2003 with a nanni comes along. I've already bought a 4 wheel snipe trailer ready to travel......Cheers for the advice richie....;)

305 hours?? hardly even run in!

you should be able to stick a zero on the end of that before it needs and seriously major work

volvo versus nanni - in the long term see how many commercial boats you can find running nanni engines and compare with how many run volvo's

that says more to me about them than anything else

I wouldn't pass it by just because its a 12 year old engine. if its been looked after, has good oil pressure, and doesn't run hot it should be good for years yet

Norman's had his 10 years and I believe it's never flickered.

He's back from his hols soon and I'm sure he'll give you the details, service costs etc.

I think I have a manual for that engine on disc somewhere so gimme a shout if you do buy it.

Seems like there are more positives than negatives for the engine, i'll ring them tomorrow and find out about service history, cutlass bearings, anodes etc. If norman has had his 10 years there must be quite a few hours on it...

I've seen that one Paul and put an offer in, for 17,000 to see what happens. Reckon i know every M/F 635 in depth , just wish people would withdraw ads when the boats are sold...

I actually emailed the guy who put it into brokerage 2 weeks ago, he advertised it on WSF and had no offers, i sold my boat two weeks later , typical....500 hours sounds a bit steep to me for 19,950 but sounds like a nice boat....Thanks for giving me the heads up on it, if one comes up local i'll be on it like a shot.

Hi mate,

apologies for late reading of thread lol sunshine got in the way on hols .....
Yes i`ve got the 105 in Slinky Kate and as mentioned had her 10 years (in fact time marches on it'll be 11 years come sept). I`ve done (I think, but I`ll check at the weekend, 1260 hours and still the rev needle hits the stop on flat out ... maybe should get a bigger rev counter :) )
I look after her well with reference to checking oil and water every trip and servicing roughly every 2 years .... although I`m an engineer I do prefer to have a volvo mechanic do the standard service (about £220 average I think but that includes filters impellers etc), and I take care of any odds and ends that occur .. I have changed the raw water pump as the bearings went but was not a breakdown just a leak improvement :)
I have also changed the feedback diesel line from injectors when it sprang a slight leak but over the 11 years its not too bad.
As for reliability, power, economics and smoothness of running ... 110% ....... highly recommended !

cheers

norm

Welcome back Norman, I've been waiting in anticipation for your opinion, 1260 hours and i'm worried about 305, always had outboards you see. You must really like that boat mate. I was browsing the net and came across The Yacht Market where there is an an Ocqueteau 625, 2002, on brokerage in Northern England, i emailed the guy and he said it had done 250 hours. the pic shows it stood outside a barn and is for sale on brokerage at £19,950. I looked further back in time on the net and the same boat was for sale private, same price with trailer included and 350 hours on the clock HMMM . Seems to have lost 100 hours, do you know if this happens a lot that boats get clocked. Thanks for that re-assuring post Norman, the wait was worth it..
