If you're that much of a plum you can be a reserve for our sea league team 'the 5 plums!'

:D

Casting a bait is completely different from a plain lead esp in a fishing situation. Timing, drop length, Arc, uneven footing, skeers, kelp, soft sand etc.. can all hinder the lad who likes to cast in perfect conditions on grass but for some lads it doesnt hinder them at all.

The best casters on the field don't necessarily make the best bait casters.

ok im in marra:D nobody can wrap round a load o lines with a 4 oz bomb on the pier as good as me:D,yyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhoooooooooooooooooo

Chukka's post on page 1 nailed it for me.

I've got a pb of 245 yards measured at a tournament. That took a very fast reel and a big power arc and step, plus I was casting in the summer and wearing t-shirt and shorts.

On the beach in my floatie I reckon if conditions are spot on I can put a bait maybe 140 - 150 yards with a fishing pendulum and safe reels. The extra power and timing I'd need to get that up to 170 yards would be pretty much impossible for this retired field caster who no longer practices and wants to keep his cast safe.

What is most interesting is that the majority of people who reckon they are hitting 150 yards plus on the beach have never been anywhere near a casting court. Those that have are usually the last to brag about how far they can cast with bait ;)

That sums it up perfectly for me 170 yards with bait in the wind witha load of gear on? dream on unless youre amongst the top guys in the country

here is lad i have helped a little with his casting, he as every thing going for him to be a top caster , excellent coordination , great strength and can move very fast for such a big bloke, with the right technique and training could be the next
world champ imho , but does he want it or is he happy with what he is doing for fishing, which its all about imho

I can just about still see yer toes hanging out of his ar$e pal:D

then watch gary pye then lol he doesnt pendulum cast but can def put a bulky non stream line bait along way i dont pendulum cast just a litlle swing taking no rod on maybe 2oclock at the most and it goes a decent way all thanks to cod magnet he knows his stuff i hurd he has created his very own high swing not to be copied by amatuers mind

If you study Mr Pyes cast you will see he does pendulum cast, the lead comes above the rod then down quickly. As for streamlined baits, his are very long and streamlined. There's no way he would get such distance otherwise. He along with a few others has shown that distance does put fish in the bag. Not always but it can pay off.

what about the massive ball of crab or clam he puts on the bottom?there not as stream line as some others i have seen plus he isnt using 12lb line on a 7ht mag he uses 18lb sensor on a penn and a 8oz namix his cast takes alot of power and timing and i said not a pendulem cast as you dont see it on a field itts a fishing cast. In my eyes distance when fishing will pay off as i cant hit 200 yds were as the big casters can hit 200 or 20 yds so always got more of a chance when you can cover more ground

no ya wrang billy boy the magnet licks no ones ring , phil could be british champion if he wanted to put the time in hes fast got good technique , 6 ft 7 , 24 stone solid muslce , arms bigger than your spindly thighs, so get ya facts right before ya call people a brown tonguer

has anyone mentioned that a cod aint a dog,it wont follow a cast like a dog would a stick, the cod doesnt care if your casting 170yds if its not there, thats why its called fishing and not casting, plonk a bait on a cods heed and it will eat it,the mark is more important, casting far is a great tool but sometimes us lads cast over the cods heeds,my two best cod(not massive )came as a result of overuns whilst fishing rock marks, dont overlook a short lob sometimes:D

Yeah well my dads bigger then your dad and I can cast 300 yards with a whole mackeral on ! Joking aside why do people get so wrapped in other peoples distances. If they think they can then let them think it. They're doing no harm. Who doesn't over embelish the odd thing in life ?
