Is there any cod about at the minute? We had a couple the other night, but there doesnt seem to be too many reports of cod about at the minute?

Not a lot of cod about but Big fish are showing.

There isn't many cod about at the moment but over the past few days theres been some canny double figured fish caught and the ones that are there aren't in shoals just the odd one. But this time of the year they seem to be lunkers, full of roe so if you are lucky enough to get one it will be a biggun. You're right i haven't heard of many cod reports, it has been poor with more quality than quantity being there at the moment.

I spent four hours today on Seaham wall. Wasn't fishing, partlly cos I haven't any beach gear :) but a quick walk along ...took four hours. Had a chat with everyone on there ( nice friendly bunch of guys). Everyone had a few decent whiting with the fish coming on at the top of the tide.

Not a single cod to be seen and apparently was the same yesterday.

A boat uptiding about 1/2 a mile out had 7 cod to 3lb in about 2 hours so the fish are around just not quite close enough inshore.

Left as it got dark and before severe frostbite took hold....not a good place to be without the right gear on.

Sea was dropping off and should be flatish tommorow if the forecasted sw'erly's arrive. In fact I may be tempted to get the boat out.

Cheers
Dave

Couple lads i work with from the coast were saying the sea was flat as a far* last night. One guy who went jogging said it reminded him of the med.

Looks like more whities.

The two lads I go down with every weekend were at the heugh last night. They had a few whities, flatties and 1 cod 3lb 13oz. Now is the time for the biggies, its just finding them.

This is the time for the bigguns but it certainly is finding them, i heard the female cod come in when its flat because they need protein for there eggs, also most of the whiting lately have had Roe in them. I think we need snow for a week and a big north easterly to bring the bigguns in for more than a day or two after it settles down. you could have had a tan yesterday whilst fishing it was canny mild.

You may as well Dave, had some canny close inshore trips in the past at this time of year, if you can face getting your hands cold then you cant go wrong, at this time of year any boat trip is a bonus in my opinion.

Close in at Newbig or St.M just off the post 30 yards or Back of Sunderland south pier in your hole or tanks at Hendon all have produced in the past looking back at records.

Also got recorded trying a few close inshore wrecks with not much luck to be honest but i am sure your records well out date mine as mine only go back 17 years
