any good day time fishin spots along blyth beach

Hi Andrew, leave your fishing gear at home one day and go for a walk along the beach just before low water. That way you will see where all of the little holes and gullies are, they always hold bits of food and the fish will follow them in when they fill up with water.
At the north end where the pipe is, walk through from the car park and turn left to where the rocks usually are, There is sometimes the odd gulley there behind a sandbar. Walk down the other way past stubblies to Maggies Burn and there are usually one or two down there too. When you get to the farm you will find them both close in and further out too so you can fish there most of the tide.
It can be like that all the way down past the middle toilets and further down to the Astley arms. Some of these holes will be close enough for you to throw a stone in underarm. Walk from the high tide mark to the hole and measure how far they are, turn and look at the shore behind you and remember a mark so you don't forget where to come back to and you are sorted. Take a note book and pen with you too as if you find a lot of places you will forget some of the details like how far out it is or what the mark was behind you.
Most people when they start fishing a sandy beach think you have to cast to the horizon when in fact you will be casting over the top of flatties or Bass that will come very close to the shore, Remember that the more work you put in the more fish you will catch.
It is easy to come on here and ask and most people won't mind helping you, but even when they tell you where to fish you could be just a few yards away from the proper mark and fishing on top of a sandbar in very shallow water and catch nothing at all.

I very rarely fish Blyth beach during the day, although you can catch flatties when conditions are right, particularly around the middle toilets, Astley, and bandstand areas. I've also had schoolie-bass from the bandstand area late in the day, but generally I'll tend to stick to night time.
Unfortunately it's gone from being probably the best codling beach in the NE a few years back to a very hit & miss place. Despite some good conditions last winter, bags of codling were very few & far between

This will go down like a lead baloon and have me hoyed over the edge of Blyth pier... but... In time for nice weather and flat sea's... Get a bamboo cane at least 6' long and a-12" nail. Cut into the nail at an angle with a hacksaw near the end (it's a chore) and bend to make a barb (ie like a fish hook!). Lash the nail onto the bamboo can with some cord, hoy a cable tie or 2 around for quickness if you like.
Now's the hard bit.. wear something on your feet to protect against weavers, glass etc. and keep the "spear" tip in the water so you don't have to break the surface and freak the fish. Walk the water.... try and spear your fish. note - the barb won't always hold them, so spear and take off the bottom - plus only spear to eat, you're gonna kill the fish so be selective for a meal.
Used to work a treat in s/sluice harbour mouth at low tide in the early 90's. But as I say, only do this for a meal, not for kicks or the fish is badly hurt at least. But it's primal and you need a good eye and reflexes anyway ;
