was about 35cm prob around the 1lb mark. Its tail was bright red round the tip? oh and when it come up was making noise lyk grinding teeth.

Well, I must admit I'm probabally wrong about it being a Hagfish, as it is the wrong shape, and I must agree it is probablly a Viviparous blenny. Only trouble is the colour.......hagfish are pink, wheras I have never seen a pink blenny. Could be a trick of the light from the camera flash.

Eel Pout

makes you wonder how many of the minor species records go unclaimed...might be worth carrying an up to date list in your bag/tackle box for reference

Anyone know where an up to date records list is online?

i dont think anyone wud keep one of them like to claim a record :D

same as a tadpole fish i caught last summer quick weigh and pic and released it unusual fish and deserved to be put back

I agree Coddy, but yet a club angler would keep a barely sized skinny Codling for the sake of a few shekels  (I fish club matches and if I ever catch one I'll keep it for said few shekels as well before peeps get shirty :red:)

So why not apply the same logic to that of a minor species and the "kudos" thereby attached?...Tadpole fish aside I'm pretty sure claiming the record for an Eelpout wouldn't be harming their stocks too much :D

definately a .. viviperous blenny ... or commonly known as an ... eelpout.

easily spotted by its thick lips and orange edges to its fins. it will also wrap itself up like an eel.
