Dunno about Tench, but the lake at the bas of the Sundial (Cobalt Business Park, next to Silverlink) certainly has Carp in it, I don't freshwater fish but I work right next to it, regularly seen people fishing it and it's apparantly a freewater so all you need is the license.

alreet cod, get ure self up to the angel of the north along by the "gateshead angel" its got 2 or 3 lakes packed with a good variety of course fish combined with loads of tench and carp you will easy catch a good bag, with very simple tactics, both float, ledger, doing well. maggotts, and pellets are sold on site where you book in and theres also a good shop for tackle and advice where anne & arthur the owners will welcome you, its £6 from about 1pm till dusk or £10 all day, get ureself up there its fishing well at the moment regards korky..

strawberry fields lake in seaham holds plenty of tench and it isnt a difficult lake to fish.

Last time i fished it i caught 30+ fish in a 6 hour session, mainly all carp with a few bream thrown in and 1 or 2 tench.
