hi would just like some information on chesil beach, what is the best time off year to go for cod and the best fishing spots.i am thinking off taking a trip down in jauary/feb any info would be appreciated thanks
Chesil ain't the cod mecca it was years ago mate.
My brother lives down there and says its dead atm.
The chesil cod championships were held at abbotsburry this year and only 2 sized cod were weighed in! One 2lb and the other 17 .
My advice? Concentrate on our coast. It's fishing a lot better.
Hiya try logging on to fishing tails this site gives you up to date information on tides, sea conditions and what the fishing prospects are going to be like on and around chesil it gives you all the info you may need to fish from the Portland end all the way west to West Bay
Good luck on your trip and tight lines!!
I have a weeks fishing on Chesil two or three times a year. The odd cod do turn up but they are few and far between. Lots of other species about though. I was last there a couple of weeks ago fishing Cogden and Hive Beach areas and caught 23 dogfish, 17 whiting, 5 poor cod and two pouting over five sessions. My catch report is here Fish, Willies and Billy Bragg's Cat .... aka Chesil Beach Report November 2012
If you are after cod you are probably better off fishing the eastern end of Chesil (Ferrybridge etc). A good source of info is the South Coast section on WSF there are always lots of recent catch reports from Chesil.
