any real cure for sea sickness

its all in the mind! well I reckon a huge part of it is. If you worry about it, think about it too much, continually checking yourself for signs... then you are gonna hurl

stop on dry land pmsl only joking.i think most is in your head if you think about it to much then you will hurl i take qaule tablets work for me m8;)

best thing is a good breakfast m8 then 1 kwell 30 mins b4 ya set off, dont look down in the boat keep looking across the water & ride against any swells, ballance is the main thing.

i remember watching myth busters and they tried loads of different things, they got the best results from ginger, they had some form of ginger tablet.

I looked into this when I first started boat fishing, I got really sick in a certain kind of swell and didn't like it at all :( .
It's all to do with the eyes telling the brain you are stood still and the balance in your ears telling the brain you are moving that makes you feel sick , so if you can get them to agree with each other you will be fine, that's why you should always watch the sea , not the inside of the cabin or the boat deck, they appear to be motionless to the eye whilst the ear is telling you they are moving.
Ginger definitely helps , root ginger is a bit harsh but by far the best, chrystalised ginger I could eat all day anyway (they put it out on plates on the cruise ships when it's rough) or ginger biscuits will help, but all of these just help your stomach ,not your brain/ears/eyes.
The best way to avoid the sickly feeling is to concentrate on your fishing and try not to take your eyes off the sea , sitting looking at the deck whilst tying on a new rig is the quickest way to sickness.
After several trips out you will eventually get more used to the motion and feel sick less and less , it's far easier with your own boat to overcome sea sickness because you know you can choose to come back in whenever you want , when someone says it's all in your mind , the biggest part that's in your mind on a charter boat is knowing that you are stuck out there and can't come back if you are sick, that alone is enough to make you feel sick before you get on the boat:rolleyes:
It's a horrible feeling, but one you can definitely overcome with practice ;)

it's all in the mind! well mostly anyway...

never hurled yet but I've come close on a couple occasions and I only had myself to blame as I didn't do at least one of the following:

Eat a decent breakfast/meal before going out
Eat and drink plenty during the trip - little and often to keep the bile stable
DON'T drink a gutful the night before
DON'T think about it - like has been said, just try to enjoy the fishing

and my all time favourite...make sure you have a good poo before the trip, nowt worse than the turtles heed breathing in your drawers for the whole trip

of course there's nowt you can do about fish guts induced spewing :D (again touch wood never happened yet but have come very close!)

Ive been curled up in a ball for 8hrs on a boat loads of times i was gonna rap it in,then i was told to take a course of tablets 3 days leading up to a trip on a sunday couple of tablets morning and night, went on a few more times i was sick a little bit but i got used to it and i was champion, try that im the worst sailor but it worked for me mate

The worst time is when the wind is one way and the tide the other. But kwells still sort it .Just follow the instuctions to the letter.

For you maybe , but that rough chop doesn't bother me , I reckon everyone has a different momentum that affects them , I've been out and been fine with lads who were sick and been out with the same lads and I've been queezy and they were fine because of different conditions , I can handle rough no problem but there's a certain frequency of swell that gets me heaving.

i heaved like a champ when i went out. took sea sickness pills before didn't work. even the skipper was feeling ill it was so choppy so i suppose i had an excuse. still was fishing while puking tho. im not wasting the money!:D
