Any sparkys

Any sparkys out there that know the rough cost of putting a socket in my shed? There is no electric to the shed and it's about 4 foot away from the side of my house sitting on concrete.

Domestic works outside are covered by Part P of the building regulations and must be notified to the local LABC. I do not do any domestic install work as I am not registered with any of the qualifying organizations. Repairs are a different matter and I help out where I can.

Just had my shed wired properly after having an extension clipped round the yard walls to the shed for about 15 years :red:

Ran the armoured cable to the shed myself and had the sparky connect it to it's own RCBO when he changed our consumer unit.

That's another thing I was looking at just putting an extension in as it's only to run a couple of fridges.

Yea that's what I was going to use but the extension I have has one of the plugs that plugs into the wall, will that do? Also been told not to have any coils

Surely you mean an mcb Keith. No decent electrician would protect a shed or garage with an rcbo.;)

Extensions are fine as a temporary measure Phil, as you were told, try not to leave any cable on the coil. Safety is most important thing, usually if it looks dodgy it is.

Gas wAter and electric are the 3 things I don't play with, but seems straight forward. For the short term anyway lol

in other words, your useless at diy, like myself.as said via phone.ive just put extention into outhouse, then added a 8 socket surge protextion thingy, hasent failed my yet in 3 years touch wood.

Hello,
I know that a lot of guys lash up electrical supplies into garages and outhouses for fridges, tanks, pumps and the like. For what it's worth there are two precautions that everyone should adhere to in my humble opinion.

If you must use an extension cable never leave it coiled up......your asking for a fire as in effect you have will have created a heating element by leaving it coiled up.
Also make sure that you are protected by some sort of earth leakage protection, RCD. This is especially important to us anglers as we have tanks and trays of water in all manner of arrangements with filters and pumps.

Don't confuse circuit breakers (mcb's) with earth leakage devices (RCD's). An mcb is an over current device but won't protect you from electric shock. I know that previous posters have already explained this but it really can't be stressed enough. Always consult a qualified spark if you have even the slightest of doubts.

Good luck Phil, hope you get sorted for the winter.

Regards Ian.
