Any1 tried new bait "kart"

i guess if you make your own,it can be made to a better standard than stuff which is bought:confused: have heard of it turning to mush very quickly:question:

True, I bought some from local tackle shop. (Bait box stuff)
Kept it frozen in a wide mouthed flask and looked fab. But when its defrosted it was like coloured water, It was very poor

i am sure i have heard that as it is or has edible crab in it, its not allowed to be used in certain areas or in certain comps / opens.

could be a load of bull, but i remember someone going on about it.

Its been around for years, I have fished along side a lad that had a few fish on it when fishing a locl rock mark. The stuff stinks lol

cart is just raw female edible crab meat, just prepare as you would a cooked crab. i cut crab in half and remove flesh, should be red and brown slop. using a tube (i use a piece of 2inch waste pipe) push finger bandage onto the tube and fasten one end with a knot, funnel the cart into the bandage to desired size of bait. cut and fasten the end of the badage. you should be left with a sausage shaped bait i have them about the size of a good winter crab bait. freeze and simplty bind on to hok with elastic thread while frozen. its supposed to be banned from comps up here in the north east but its widely used, seaham club allow it, it was allowed in the recent sunderland two day comp, basically if its not in the rules its banned you can us it.

i use cart quite a bit mainly on the hard ground it is one of those baits that can fish very well like i was fishing off whitby with fresh peeler and fresh yellowtails and was getting outfished 3 to 1 with the lad using cart ,if your planning to make your own you want the female crab full of coral about sept to dec i pay about £20 per kilo which is in blocks a lad on whitby site sells it ,if im making my own i mix it with mussel then freeze it into blocks

using the method karlfoot describes, i guess you could could put anything ing in the sausage:exclam:like mackarel old rag lug squid prawn etc etc:question:

kart

kart

aye aye,i tried that kart a couple of times of horden & easington beach's & caught nowt, but when i put peeler on i got results, but i have heard on the odd occasion that it does catch,(BUT ONLY THE ODD TIME),my preference,YA CANT BEAT PEELER,!!!

used it loads of times , on its day it will outfish anything , we use it in tights stays on the hook better , got to be edible female crab or you are waistng your time , give it a go itcertainly works for us

yeah i use cart regular. Ive found it attracts the fish but fish are actually taken on the second hook loaded with lug or rag. But certainly attracts as theres been times when im gettin nowt but as soon as the cart goes on things change. But theres been times ive had nowt with it too. So a good bait on its day same as anything else really mate

Lincolnshire peeler ltd

Lincolnshire peeler ltd

Avoid any bait from these guys, they mix flour and crab flavourings to make there bait, the say there's all kinds of sea animals blended together with a binding agent, what a load cods wallop,I made the mistake of buying some to tuck away in the freezer,I tried it one day using two rods same set up but different baits,I caught 9 fish on different single baits, on one rod and nothing, not even a knock on other rod using there sh@te,cart is different,I've heard quite a few good remarks about it,and I will be giving it a go in the near future ,dave

We make our own kart its easy to do.go to your local fisb quay and get 3 kilo of raw edible crab.i also mix any soft crabs if i find them.just blend it all up with breadcrimb and use a finger gauze bandage to put it in.dont bother with cling film bait washes out too quick.

Its easy to make and can be just as good as peeler on it day.

Remember that kart cannot be used north of river tyne

cart has been around for years and its a plain simple bait that can be used to good effect on rocky marks.... (but saying that about 4 years ago i fished chapel st leonards during the summer after smoothounds and used it along side peeler on two rods, i think i had 7 smuts on peeler and 5 on cart..)

i use cart in cling film and always frozen ...its whipped on with plenty bait elastic, the cling film is pierced a few times and a couple of slappers or runnydown lashed on as well..... i have found that, that cocktail works best for me,

as for the environmental impact of the cling film.... its virtually nil
if i dont get a fish,... after 10 to 15 mins at the most i re-bait and i always find my old bait is still there but washed out.... i just cut the elastic and clingfilm off (put in a rubbish bag and take home = no environmental impact) and bait up again with another prepared trace...

it is not the new "magic bait" that the press and some bait companies are pushing... its ancient, i first used it in the 80's ... i was given some by a local while fishing filey brigg one summer while having a holiday at the blue dolphin..
it got me two cod about 5lb apiece...

.. some days it will catch other times it wont...just the same as any other bait really..

i seem to have more success with it on hard ground especially after a good blow... mainly before we start to get consistent cold spells...

its a great bait to keep in the freezer along with your runnydown and the other usual frozen baits like mussel, macky and razorclam..

just remember that all baits have their time and place, the hard bit is matching that up with the mark and conditions...
cheers
Paul

I marra. had a few fish out there when i was a teen ager. fished good on south easterlys as am sure you know.

was like blackpool looooomo's in the 90's, especially back of the tanks with all the tilley lamps:D

Just a heads -up for everyone looking in....

Cart is now banned from use in any Amble SAC competition, club or open.

Not our choice, but it's now an illegal bait in the north east.
Daft thing is, tackle shops can sell it but we can't use it !
