First of all i must say i use there tape on all my rods and have had no issues at all, good stuff
I bought some of there mighty bright foam protector, to protect your rod from getting scratched up in stand
I cleaned the area with lighter fluid, keyed it then cleaned it again before sticking it on, i noticed straight away it didnt seem to take well, if pressure was applied it would move around
Thought maybe the adhesive on the tape needed to set so left well alone overnight
Used it the next day and one piece fell off after 45 mins and the other peeled back halfway
Dunno if i just got a bad batch or summit but it certainly didnt live up to my expectations
Any body else used it?

mine fell off on both arms.waste of money

I just received a response from hugh from mighty bright
Hi Dean,
Sorry you've had an issue with the foam, this is the 2nd batch of the foam which - due to the manufacturer of the original going bust, saw a new material being used about 12 months ago, of the 6-800 items we've sold we have had a bout a dozen failures reported. Most of the failures have been after a number of months, of the instant failures two wouldn't stick because they'd cleaned with wd 40, another because they'd roughed it up with sandpaper which allowed moisture beneath the adhesive. the rest were unexplained to us.

I can assure you that we are not sitting on our hands with this issue and have spoken to the manufacturer of the actual foam, it's a specialist material and we are going to look at ways of addressing the issue. having done our own testing we found that we only had failures when the rod blank was pushed against the ends of the foam or when the grip wrap of the butt was pushed into the foam, the issue being in both cases that the foam was pushed / pulled off of it's adhesive base. something which didn't happen on the original as it was less grippy - it's kind of a victim of it's own success in this grippier form.

Anyway, that aside, we are happy to replace the foam for another. If you bought direct from us (via Crazyplums on ebay) - we just need your name, address & postcode that you would have used with paypal to track it.. we'd also need this info so as to do a direct paypal refund.
If you bought it from a shop, please tell us where and when. If you would rather a refund then please take it back to the shop, they can ring Hugh on 01323 833683 10am - 6pm mon-fri and I will personally ensure they're re-imbursed with stock. you can take this letter along with you or forward it to them if done online.

Can you also explain to us how you cleaned it, keyed etc, it helps us to understand how the product had failed, please answer the questions below.. the answers will not affect our replacement policy but we do need an honest reply please :-)

1) where & when purchased.
2) how did you clea the head, also you say you keyed it, please explain.
3) what part of the rod is going into the foam, bare blank or butt wrap?
4) how has it failed, is the adhesive tape peeling from the tripod or is the foam separating from the adhesive??

thanks in advance,
regards,
Hugh Potter

Top bloke is Hugh, even if his politics are dodgy as owt. I got mine from Moonfleet a few months ago, for the sake of a couple of quid I never bothered going back to moan but maybe I will now you've posted this...

Sounds like there are probably a lot people thats had problems with it that they dont know about
I am not bothered about a couple of quid, just the principle that something thats supposed to work, clearly doesn't
If they have sold 6-800 of them thats alot of peoples couple of quids

I have just put the green tip tape on one of my rods. Don't know if it's the colour but my old rods with white number plate tape stand out much better. I would have preferred white but they didn't have any in Lewis's.
I was thinking of replacing my rod rest foam but I think I will look elsewhere.

i have the eclipse (black tape) on all my rods and its spot on, cant fault it
Dont know whats gone wrong with the foam, might just be a bad batch.

I've had no problems with the tip-tape & especially like the black stuff. I didn't even know he made stuff for tripods - a few years back I just cut a couple of strips of neoprene (off a big patch that came as part of a repair kit with a new pair of waders) and glued the stuff in - it's never budged since!

Gary :)

I've got a 3/4 part roll of black tip tape here, it's crap compared to other I have.

I used a bit on one rod, the rest has sat unused in a box for ~2 years.
It came from uk hooks.

Bad batch I guess. :(

I got my second lot of foam from there ebay site a couple of weeks ago as I had to replace the top bar on my rod rest as one of the plastic holders broke.that bar has had the foam on for ages and never had a issue, this new lot I put on the new top bar is not good, one side fell off on the prom and blew into the sea and the other kept dropping off to/ive contacted them on ebay so ill see what they say there

sounds like they shouldnt even be selling it if thats the case!
Mine fell of in less than a hour, thats some serious quality control problems
If everbody thats used it and had problems contacted them, they would probably take it off the shelves
Most people will just think ah its only few quid or i must not of applied it correctly
Cant understand how it could of been rigorously tested and performed well mind

2 new packets dropped through the door yesterday
wonder if these ones work
try contacting hugh through mighty bright web page

The replacement foam fell off on first use!
what a load of S***E
No good sending/replacing twice as much as originally bought if it doesn't work! i now have spare useless foam

i stuck the spare packet back in the post today
I dont want the stuff its garbage, my stand has curved holders so cant really put it on in sections.
it didnt even last a hour, i got a email from mighty bright saying some plastics are just notoriously hard to stick to!
Well if thats the case why market your product as something that sticks to plastic?
