ive just got my cmc black bird 15ft and just wondering who"s got one and how you rate them if you have used, and iam using mine down at kirkleatham this year so any imfor would be great thanks

There good rods. I had a go ov both the fixed spool and multiplier version and there designed for lighter fishing situations. A simple off the ground cast sent the 3oz lead a long way, it is an excellent rod for beaches.

It isnt exactly designed for tournament casting in my opinion, but using a 3oz to 4oz lead with a small multiplier should reap the rewarwds on the casting field.

Happy to help mate! :D

the one i have casts a 6oz with no problem, and i think with a 30z i wouldnt feel it as i caught a whitting and it was about 7/80zs and i didnt feel it till it was down the side and hardly bent the tip when lifted, you must have the wrong rod in mind..

No, it is exactly the rod in mind, but you can certain cast 6oz with them, but I was just saying what felt perfect for me. Its personal opinion. I mainly use 5oz all the time, except when I u the cm bb (its not cmc).

Remember though, you will lose distance with a heavier lead, mind u when fishing this may not matter.:-)

cheers for imfor

no bother mate thanks for your imfor and good luck on ya comp hope ya win it

Are u having me on!!:D:D#

Its obvious, BECAUSE ITS HEAVIER!!!

Unless your the likes of danny moeskops, etc, who no matter what weight lead it will go far.

I don't think so esp in fishing.

U try and cast a decent cod bait with a 3oz lead and 20lb line and compare it to someone who can cast a 6 or 7oz.

I have done when rock fishing, though the bait made the whole weight heavier.:D

Fair do's a can chuck a 5oz lead + bait a heck of alot further than a 3oz lead, but a bet (giving the right person) a 3oz lead could be as cast as far 6oz, it has to be possible, right:confused::confused:

it would go further if you used light line, but it depends on the rod with it only being 30z.

Thats exactly what i said mate:D:D

I always use 5oz leads on me big rods, unless am rock fishing when any weight that is useable (4oz and upward)

Anyways you just use whatever lead suites you mate, where all different. Hope you hit some big distances with it (and even bigger fish!!:D)

Bigger leads have lower speed from the tip and more drag hence you get less distance. Check the results from any casting comp and the big distances come on the 125 and 150g weights. You still see some good chucks on the 175 but distances tend to be well down on the other two leads.

If conditions allow my preferred weight for fishing is the 150g (5.25 oz) though I will also often fish with a 125 (4oz) if conditions allow. On the rare occaison that 150 will not hold I'll go up to 175 but unless I'm fishing somewhere with a really strong tide run this as said is not often. Compared to the 175 I can put the 150g a good 20 - 30 yards further (with the 125 not far behind) unless casting into a strong headwind when the extra momentum of the bigger weight compensates for the negatives of less lead speed in the cast.

jason carter last yr yes at steyning cast 308 or was it 310yds with 175 grm lead

think he won that event.

I've got to disagree. The best Anglers/casters use at least 6oz's of lead when fishing with decent baits and 7oz into a headwind.

The heavier leads are used to Tow baits out particularly in a headwind.

Plus, the line diameters are lower on lesser leads on the field. So it gives them a natural advantage.

Learn to cast with a bigger lead and u will see the benefits.
