Anyone doing a bit of winter fishing this year?

so on the subject of winter boat fishing, what baits are best? presuming the normal rag / lug / squid, but is mackerel any good this time of year, given its outside the mackerel season and all? Also, is it pointless using lures (ie daylights, hokkais, muppets etc?), or shads?

Looks like we're gonna try Sunday too, seems to be the better day, lighter winds. Looks like its all to hell again next week though, winds up to 50-ish mph?!
