Hi gents,

Out this morning on Tynemouth pier in a BOTAC match and my rod was blown from the rest and smashed the tip ring! Boo hoo!! It's a Chris Dance built zziplex so looking for a good rod builder to save sending all the way back to summerlands in Devon for repair. If needs must it will go!! Your help appreciated.

Cheers and all the best!

Lads nearer to you will probably be able to recommed someone local but you won't go wrong with either Mick Elliot (MickE on here) or Primo Man (Alan) both from Horden.

as stewart says two lads mentioned very good can give you others from same area as well but there are a few from your area as well and on shield side as well they will be replying soon i am sure.

Cheers boys I live in Cramlington but work in and around Newcastle and Sunderland so not far away from any of the above mentioned.
Cheers.

Just re-read your post, if it's just the tip ring it should be a dead simple job. I can't see someone as good as Dance using anything other than hot-melt glue so should be a simple case of warm gently with a lighter and it will just slip off. Similar process in reverse - drip hot-melt onto the tip and slide the new tip ring on.

No need for any fancy whipping and less than a 5 minute job.

Was toying with that idea and will see if can get tip off tomorrow and measure the bore to order the correct tip. Looks like veals best place to order alconite. Will let you know how I get on!

Cheers Stewart

If you are working in Sunderland I'm sure Andy Rutherford will have alconite tip rings in stock; if he doesn't I'd expect Terry at Reelsport in Shields to have them. Take the tip with you and either one will likely do it there and then for you, though I'd give them a bell first just to check

Rod builders.

Rod builders.

Would highly recommend the following: Terry (Reel sport), (Primo Man) Alan and seen stan's (fish fingers) work, all Professional finish's.

Thanks for all your help lads the response has been brilliant!
Looking to get the zippy back in action early in the new year. Great advice, cheers and all the best for 2013!
John:-)

put a diamite tip ring on . made of stainless steel , so wont/ shouldnt break ever again !!!

Diamite Tip Rings

Putting a diamite tip on a Dance built ZZiplex with alconites is akin to putting a lawn mower engine in a Ferrari. It will totally alter the action and tip recovery of the rod and not for the better.

There's a very good reason why modern hi-tech carbon rods are built with alconite rings (or the Minima 4's); heavier rings like the old BNHG's etc ruin the rods action. It's the same reason why tourney casters tape the rings on - to put as little extra weight as possible onto the business end of the rod.
