Well the great north run is nearly upon us and its time for me to put away the fly rod and bits of fluff. The mackey bashers will be finished spoiling the piers and the holiday makers will soon all sod off home the weather will turn cack. The rain will fall the wind will blow and jack frost will soon be with us. Its time to put new batteries in the head torch, find my woolly hat, dust off the beach-caster, put new line on the multis, make new rigs, find the new big hooks i got in the summer, wash out the flask, check that moths have not been in my thermals and all the other preseason checks that need done.
No doubt i will have to hand over large amounts of money to the local tackle shops and build up the muscles so i can hump my box along Shields pier and clamber around the gate. Get used to standing in the freezing cold with no fish within a mile of my bait. Having snot freeze to the end of my nose and damp fingers to go that numb i wont be able to put bait on the hook.

BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
