hi guys just wanted to know as i wanna get either a shakespeare sherpa or breakaway backrest conversion ...the sherpa being half the price..and if i get the breakway conversion must i get the beta box specifically to use other accessories that fit or can i use anyseat box liketeam nova etc....i currently use a keenets box with the standard strap

The Breakaway conversion is a great bit of kit, I've lugged my box the three miles each way along the shingle to the Aerials at Aldbrough in Suffolk and the backrest was a godsend (though the walk still nearly killed me).

Don't know if it will fit the other boxes but for a Beta box it is well worth every penny.

have seen the backrest on a couple of makes before so they will fit , but be careful its not as straight forward as it is on beta boxes, cant actually remember but one of the boxes it fixes onto the front and not the back
, hope this helps to decide want you want, peronally i would go for the beta box

I think AFAW also do a harness-type conversion which I guess would fit a few boxes & unlike the breakaway also has a padded belt which makes it ideal if you're carrying it a long way. A fella picked one up from my local shop recently for a tenner (think it had been lying around for a while).

Gary :)

thats cheap the afaw kit normally retails around 40 odd....i was just wondering as even tho i have a csuhion seatbox i hardly sit on it ...so was just wondering as the sherpa is cheap is the back support worth it ..i am thinking of the breakway to be fair ..tho .just read on another forum that the back support tends to dig in ...is this true guys?

It does tend to dig into the old love handles a bit. All wrapped up for winter you won't notice it; summer I usually wrap a jumper and my smock round my waist and that pads it out so I don't feel it. Apart from that though for carrying it is excellent, the solid frame sits well on the shoulders and you can carry it a long way even if it's packed in relative comfort.

PMSL. Any price for a sesh like ehh:D

I was living in Portsmouth at the time and had forgotten what a cod looked like (I've caught more in the last year since being home than I caught in 20 years down there).

Drove 200 miles up to Aldbrough in Suffolk for the spring run then yomped 3 miles down the shingle to the Aerials. Ended up with 6 cod for about 20lb, carrying them back along the shingle in the dark was even worse:D On its day it is probably one of the best cod beaches in the country, lads were getting 30-40lb bags that spring but we caught the tail end in late April.

The walk is a killer but well worth it :D
