Have a look around any Car boot sales.I have had some quality Spear and Jackson and Bulldog forks over the years for no more than a fiver.
And the good thing is the tines are already worn a bit so they are easier to use.

does anybody know were to buy a flat tined digging fork?
Just use an ordinary garden fork, that’s all I’ve used for years. Don’t bother with a stainless steel one, they’re too soft and will bend.

B & Q mate, The make is Friskers, cost: 26 quid. I recently bought one and it paid for itself immediately. Great for soft sand digging and every other ground.
