Bait!

how did the trip go??

Mmmm....

I got a stark reminder that I know jack **** about sea fishing :(

Lost a fortunes worth of gear..lol..at one point I was losing an entire rig every drift...sometimes two...thats £3.50/£7.00 a drift

Ended up having to take the treble off of my pirks? rippers to make sure I lasted the day.

Unfortunately we couldnt find the mackeral until later in the afternoon so the going was quite tough for everyone aside from the guys using Morrisons Seafood Selection..WTF! 8-10lb'ers coming to a squid ring and cooked prawn..made me laugh though :D

Most guys managed good catches with a few close to double cod and ling. A ling of 10lb taking the sweepstake.

We got into the mackeral in the afternoon and even I managed to catch a few, albiet hooked at the wrong end :o..

Quite a few big ling came after that to the other guys but for me I managed 1 cod @ 4lb and about 5 mackeral for the day.

I enjoyed my day out but admit I'm not used to taking the wooden spoon at the end of the day [well not freshwater fishing anyway :P]. However, I learnt a helluva lot and am hoping to get out wp this week and try to improve my loss of gear / fish ratio.

Father in law has just gave me a big bag of lead plunders and rippers, plenty to feed the wrecks for a while anyway.

Paul :)

it's swings and roundabouts when it comes to losing gear on wrecks - some days you can lose a hell of a lot of moneys worth of gear and other days you won't...try not to break it down monetarily otherwise you'll never go out again :D

At least if you're snagging you are where the fish are...

if you're serious about getting into the boat fishing mebbes start buying stuff in bulk to even out the expense - hooks, swivels, line, muppets, rigs etc are all cheaper when bought in larger quantities

At least you're thinking about going back for seconds though - always a good sign :D

If you're fishing with baited rigs a rotten bottom is worth using, that way there's a chance that all you'll lose is the lead.

Also worth swaping the trebles on the pirks for a single assist hook fixed to the top eye, a gummi makk will do the job.
