Bank charges

Just heard on the radio yesterday about a bloke who complained to the bank about his charges and said he was going to take the matter further so they gave him £800!! Apparently if you threaten them with court they'd rather pay you off rather then tarnish their name. This was a legal bigwig who was saying all this. My work knacked up my wages and I was charged £175 charges as all my dd's were missed! I called them and after being told there was nothing they could do I eventually found out all the operators are authorised to knock of £75. I wanted to go above her to get the rest quashed and she told me the only way to do this was to go via my own branch. I'm still to do this although I can Claim it all back from work anyway. Shy bairns get nowt.
 
You can claim for all bank charges,even ones that have been closed.Credit cards and hp loans for up to 6 years back,even if they are finished.

The moneysavingexpert.com website is brilliant,and includes template letters you can send,together with all the relevant addresses.It also includes threads from people who have won.They also advise you to add on 8% to your total.Not one person has lost!!
 
The way it works is your disputing the fact that it doesn't cost 30-35quid to send a letter that has been proven to cost around 1p.
By taking them through the courts and if your claiming 6years worth you need to brake it down to £5000 lumps in order to take them through the small claims court ..that keeps the cost down..the bank will not turn up at court as this will set a president for all banks and charges.
Its not as easy as it sounds and you have to do it right or you loose out big time, but by following the mentioned web site you have all the help you need I think it takes around 6mnth start to finsh.;)
 
Luckily i aint near £5000,more 3 figures,but working out the time i will spend claiming compared to what i will get,it seems like financial sense to carry on.

Already had £140 off an old hp agreement that they tried charging me for,soon as i mentioned what i was going to do,a call to the supervisor meant that they cleared my charges!
 
looking carefully at this one, downloaded 6 years worth of statements for all 3 of my accounts.

personal account has over the 3 accounts added together have nearly 17k in charges on em

might be good for laugh just to wind em up, although the thought does cross my mind about how difficult they could make life if you really upset em
 
I think they make it difficult if you have an overdraft or loan etc,They recommend you open another unlinked bank account,but that is just incase you get stuck by them,but 17k in 6 years,i know what i would be doing,get the letters in the post.Follow the instructions from the mse website and take the fight to them.Follow the forums because people have been written letters by the banks offering them vastly reduced sums,also they recommend adding 8% to the sum you have calculated.By my reckoning that should take you over £18k.You have to be prepared to take it to court etc but the links make it simple.

Go for it mark mate its your money they have!!! watch a case start to finish on the forum before you dive in head first but you have nothing to lose all the info is on there and best of luck .
 
Thats why they say to open an unlinked bank account,mind £3200 is canny.
Just goes to show how much money they have made over the years from their customers,they reckon its 5.6 BILLION pounds!
 
Forgot to say the mentioned about opening another bank account before you take action against the bank as many of them have a habit of closing down accounts.
