Decided to have a run up to Beadnell today with Neil (Kingfisher) who was back from work for a day or two & our mate Davey - with having a match coming up at the weekend I was curious to see how it was fishing. Got there for about 10am and it was looking a bit gloomy, but we were into fish straight away. Neil was first off the mark with one about 3lb.....

Then Davey was off the mark with one about the same size....

Then came the first wrasse, & best one of the day also at just about 3lb (also to Neil).....

By about lunchtime the sun finally came out and after a slow start myself I finally managed a size codling, followed by a wrasse of about 2 1/2lb, and Davey & Neil continued to pull out size codlings. All the fish under about 2 1/2lb were returned, along with all the wrasse, and I also managed the only coalie of the day - a nice one just under the 2lb mark. I think the final tally of wrasse was about 5 fish, all a good stamp, oh, and I also had a grannyfish - first one for a while (at least it wasn't a rockling:D).
Here's a couple of snaps of Davey and Neil with their best fish of the Day; Davey, around 4lb....

.....and Neil's, nigh on 5lb.....

.....and finally the lads with 3 keepers each, all between about 2/12 to 5lb.....

Rather foolishly, I forgot to get anyone to take a snap of me with anything today, but then again I didn't manage any keeper-codlings today:confused::confused:

Still, as long as conditions are good for sunday, there should be some good bags had in our match (Whitley Summer League Open match 2). Fingers crossed, and well done to Neil who would have had a bag of at least 16lb if it had been a match......then again if there had been money at stake he'd have probably blanked!:D Well done to Davey as well who managed not to get hung up with his fish this time & (I think?) caught nothing but codlings all day!

Cheers, Gary :)

Were you fishing on the move between the numerous gulleys or static on the Point. Nice day had by all reading your report, less chance of having divers in the water weekdays which helps. NICE 1

Fantastic mate, those cod look ace. I've never fished Beadnell, looks like a great location. Is it very rough ground up there?

Great session lads. Nice report Gary, we will take your word for it that you caught something lol.

They were probably using fresh peeler which is the best bait to use up there now.

Yes it is very rough ground up there but that is where you will find the fish!!

Yeah, to answer a few of the questions - fresh crab was the bait of choice, with the odd frozen one or a bit of mussel thrown in as well - you can just make out in the picture of the wrasse the large bait on a 4/0 that it managed to get in it's gob. Also tried tipping with a squid's nappa the first couple of chucks myself, but the fish weren't interested - I wasn't even getting bites while the others were landing fish so the squid went over the side & I just fished fresh crab after that.

We also moved around a bit, from behind the telephone box to Lady's Bay as the tide dropped then flooded - we fished around 2 1/2 hrs down & 4 up, but the last couple were pretty quiet. To those who haven't fished Beadnell the ground varies from heavy to very heavy, lots of kelp & thick weed - proper north-east fishing!! Pulling even a 4 lber through a hundred yards of that weed can have your arms just about dropping off & give you the shakes for a few minutes:D

Just seen the proposed forecast for sunday - hope it's wrong!:(

Cheers, Gary :)
