Took My Uncle Fishing this morning as hea keen to get back into it, we hit the elbow of the Groyne at shields, fishing the tide out which I na is nt good but wanted somewhere easy to get to... Whilst the family played on the beach...
Anyway I had nowt at all, but Me Uncle chucked out about 25 yards, and just as he's was asked what a proper bite would look like his rod nearly bounced out me rest twice!!! He reeled in in disbelief haha, and ended up pulling a small Wrasse in, 1st time I've ever seen 1... And the lad nxt to us had fished for years and only ever seen 2! That being 1 of them!!! Haha...
Beginners Luck Eh?!?!? HAHA...
the lad spinning next to me had no luck either, until he hooked into a bigg'un... Some greedy Bird!!!
Canny Day anyway!!!!

Nice job Nesty, The Groyne is always a bit hit and miss, should maybe have tried the Walkway instead if there wasnt a load of poop floating down the river lol. Nice day out in the sun anyway, congrats!

I was originally ganna fish walkway alone this mornin, but went last minute with family, so ended up on Groyne, elbow... Was a lush day like...

Thanks for your help with the bird mate, think it was a Guillemot. Managed to get it back ok after all the squawking, poor sod.
Great to see a Wrasse at Shields again, first time I've seen one in years.
Great weather, not so great fishing. I'm out at Hebburn for some nice sedate bait fishing later. Think I'll forget the spinning for a while.:)

I m8. Good to see the bird ok... Enjoy ya session the night, look forward to a Great Catch Report tomorrow, haha...Good Luck...

Could be worth a shot. Next time I fish the groyne might take light gear aswell...
Just waiting on the Winter coming to be honest, roll on I say!!!!

I was spinning off the leas two weeks ago and there were guillemots chasing my spinner. Quite a few bonks as they wacked it but I didn't hook any of them thank goodness. The water was really clear and it was fascinating watching them swimming under water right below my feet chasing a shoal of sandeels while I stood on a rock. The sandeels were swooping about breaking up and grouping back together like starlings do. I blanked but it didn't matter it was amazing watching them.

I didn't even see it coming, there were a few about but I was casting away from them. This one must have come a fair way underwater and really hit the lure hard before surfacing. It's horrible but the only thing you can do is to reel the thing in and get the lure out of it's mouth.
I was surpised that the bird could hardly be seen in the photo, must have been the only second I had a decent hold on it.
It was quite distressed but I watched it to make sure it got away ok before I left.
Later on I had a nice quiet session at Church Bank at Hebburn. There were plenty rods out and I saw about 10 flatties pulled in, 2 of them mine. I fished from about 6.00 to 8.30 and the Tyne was like a millpond by the time I left. Gorgeous evening, wish I'd had my camera with me.
