scremerston is a canny beach for flatties and the odd bass, the rocks north of the beach run along the beach and its a funny patch to fish...
imagine the blade of a bow saw.... if you cast straight into the sea you cast across the teeth.. but if you cast along the beach you fish the grooves...
very peculiar rock formations....
cheers

Fished Berwick pier a few times but never had any success, just coalies. The beach next to the pier used to be spot on for digging big lug but the worm have become scarce now compared to what it used to be like, I don't bother digging it any more. To much like hard work.

Hi I have been out on a couple of recce's,
Never having fished up here I'm currently looking for a place to dig a few lug, Spittal looked like a nice beach for it, but a patrol of the beach on a low spring tide found that it is barren - not one cast.
Such a shame.

Berwick looks like a tidy place to fish - clean on the south rough and kelpy on the north.

But a lack of food supply might be a problem for fish.

Sorry g.ordon I didn't mean to imply there were no fish, I would imagine there is plenty of rag and little crustaceans in the mud further up past the bridges.
I too thought the area you described would be good for flatties and bass.

Don't really know too much about seasons up here but from past experience in Swansea this is the season flatties slow down to a stop and it's 2 months early for bass and ages before mullet.

No mate, I didn't think you were implying anything, it's just I didn't identify the location I used to fish very accurately. The place I'm on about is just right of the life boat house just down from the estuary/beach car park at spittal. From my experience, in summer, best fished at low tide using fresh crab, 2lb dusbinlids are on offer. Ate one once and it was OK.

Thank you g.ordon.
Good to know it is productive, I'll have to give it a go one day, been ages since I fished for flatties.
