Best is what suits you...sir !

Best is what suits you...sir !

Original LT Bullet for me, as an allrounder !

Recently bought a M427SU blank, and the shop had all the latest Zippy, and Century blanks in......Bugger all price difference ?
i own both Zippies, and Century......different characteristics for different applications !
If it does what you want.....and your happy with it.....then it's the best rod !

i think some people are missing the point an "all round rod" is a rod that can be used in the rivers fishing for whiting flats, on the pier and on the beaches but still has enough back bone for the rocks imo its a bit over kill fishing for whiting and flats in any river using a komp ss, zeteque, m427 su ect can it possibly be any fun? its much more fun catching fish on a rod that actually bends, especially when fishing for cod people say cod don't fight is that because there using a rod too stiff for the job? because a good codling feels great on a rod which actually bends allowing you to feel every dive and kick the fish makes, i agree when fishing the cliffs you do want something with a lot of power in the mid section and butt so the rod locks up when hauling a good cod up a cliff but apart from that is a stiff rod really that necessary for what we catch on the north east coast  .... or is it just a myth

Could'nt agree more with what a lot of the lads have said.In my opinion go for a rod thats known as suitable for rough ground if thats what you mainly fish, this same rod will fish the river beaches etc all comes down to a personal thing trial and error.I see what a few lads have said about rods that are'nt renowned as rock rods but are still capable.I used a zziplex SST for a couple of years for most of my fishing on some real heavy ground beadnell cullercoats etc,had my heaviest cod of 10lb 4 on that from cullercoats and the rod handled it no problem completely different rod to most recognised rough ground rods but i was comfortable using it at the time.

agree with LeeJ AFAW Big Beach MK1 truly outstanding

Nah, lifeless and dull tip and sloppy butt that can't punch a big lead out.

The tourney match is a good rod but again lacking a little power lower down and in the butt for 200g and 3 clipped baits . My gt will do everything a tourney match will do and more, bite detection is as good if not better imo.

The std M427 is a very good rod too, powerful but the full carbon tip shows bites very well.

All sea rods are overkill for the fish we catch in the uk. A 3wt fly rod can easily land a 10lb plus trout in a matter of minutes and they fight a lot more than any cod. Even a 40lb tope can be landed easily on a bass type rod.

The trouble with sea fishing especially in winter is you need 6oz minimum to punch through the wind, drag in weed, cope with strong tides and break out grip leads etc. The continental and south coast type gear is just out of its depth a lot of the time when conditions are right for our fishing.

A balanced powerful rod is much more important as anyone who has used an eliminator will testify to. I've never used such a tip heavy and cumbersome rod.

Some of the older rods were wonderfully sensitive, the old long eazy match was a classic, you could feel every nibble in the hand, great when the cod size limit used to be 30cm., trouble is they used to go bang far too easily. The Appollo mk1 is another lovely sensitive rod, i was always scared to cast mine with any real power though.

i have used a c3 ld and what you say about them i would agree what peoples probs with these rods are bite detection some or a lot would say tip is not very good for bite detection not an issue with me if you fish with no bait on your hooks bites are not an issue.

Yeah I read a lot of reviews on the rod and to be honest most were excellent bar a few who complained about bite detection. I was fishing up collywell the other day and had no problem seeing rockling bites plus a coalie which was the same size as my bait :o

Couldn't disagree more about the big beach mate yes the tips a bit soft but you could take the rod anywhere and it would cope . I've used it on the rocks and cliffs throwing big baits and 6 oz leads no problem . I've tried and owned quite a few rods being mentioned and as an all round rod I'll stick with the big beach

Got a zziplex SST myself green blank, 13ft 6 i would agree that its a great all rounder but with plenty of power for anywhere along our coast :)

Had a greys appollo mk 3 for three and half year now.use it all winter and cant fault it.A debate on rods is gana get different opinions, much the same as what cars best isnt it.each to tha own a say:)

Txl gt built light with taped on black minimas. Ultra powerful rod, will cast any weight you can handle, 8-10 oz full pelt would be a breeze due to the power in the butt section. Brilliant bite detection, tip bends in the tide and shows dab bites at range!!, smooth smooth casting and doesn’t bite back if your timings slightly out. Will lock and pull the plug out if needed and as its a Zzippie you have reliability second to none and not to mention minimal depreciation your moneys safe should you fancy a change.

Spot on Andy.and as per 2nd post on this thread why its my choice. Has potential to cast 300yds with ease but still fish for dabs at long or short range.

Not really built for our coastline, in my opinion.
Sticks of rhubarb, and nowhere near worth the money, the zippy cult
pay for them.

Sorry, but thats rubbish.

I've had a dream machine which got me Fish to 11.5lb, I've still got a pro-am match which got a 15lb+ cod all the way to the side of the south pier with no problem at all, and I had an XTR which I used to crank in 3 dogs at a time over SW Scotland, something it done with ease. Zziplex are quality rods with a range to suit all.

My Favourite though has to be my Mk1 Apollo. It does everything I need to enable me to catch fish and hasn't let me down yet. If I could ever get hold of a Zippy Dream Machine again though, I'd be a happy man - a rod ahead of its time when it was out.

Its all down to personal choice, whats comfortable for you. To put down a make of rod because of your personal dislike for them without trying is ridiculous.
