Best bait for the Big Beach

Had a change of heart and gonna fish the big beach the morra either side of top water. Gonna try next to Trow rocks. Anyone had much success here lately. What baits have worked best.

It's crap tide but struggling for somewhere to take my son. He can't really cast. So hoping he can winkle out some flatties at close range.

Ive had a few lately from the far corner near trow rocks mainly coalies, flounder and rockling on rag and bluey

Usually a nice hole at the south end right next to trow rocks and a gulley you can lob into at high water too but you really have to check it out at low water first. Should be some flatties or coalies about. You could try Hebburn at the bottom of church bank, nice and easy to fish for the bairns.

Yes they do mate, packs of 3 but they are big...around £3 a pack i think

Not fished there for a while but last session in May last year had about 20 Flounder to a decent size none more than 15 yards out all came to Bluey on a 2 hook paternoster rig size 1 hooks

Same for me most of mine i caught were with a 20 yard lob on my bass rod...only had 1 coalie at distance

As stated above fish "stupidly" short, about 15 to 20 yards out (any further and you'll cast past them) Either runnydown or rag tipped with macky does the buisiness. Two hook flappers size 1 or 2 hooks.
Alternatively fish up the Wear, was fishing superb a couple of weeks ago although the flounders will be going out to spawn anytime now. Giving it a couple of hours at Claxheugh HW this morning just getting my gear ready now, i'll post a report when i get back.

Either that or you need some sympathy fishing after last Sunday.....

For what it's worth there isn't much happening along the coast down from Hendon prom. Have had 2 sessions the last couple of nights and only a bullhead and 7" fish finger size codling.
Seaham fished theit competition last night. I was on the bottom of the pier and loads went to the far end but I doubt if anything decent was caught.
Will watch for reports.

If you really want some fish then you just have to do the flattie bashing on known marks and as Micky says, Claxheugh is one of the best.

Just fished last 2 hours of flood at Claxheugh and blanked. Did see a nice sea trout landed though !
