Best catch I can remember from the shore was a Mackerel in Mevagissey harbour on a green glass rod. A load of tourists gathered to watch me play the beast, applauded when I handballed it up the wall (1lb + fish) and booed when my Dad whacked it on the nut on the railings and let it slip (dead) back into the water.

Best fish i can't remember properly is off a Seaham beach when I was about 8. Cast my garcia mitchell thing about 30 yards out into 18 inches of jet black water and hauled in a proper cod. (ten a penny back then)

Best fish recently - the scabby little tommy that got me a copy of Stores's book at a NESA comp.

my remembered best catc was years and years ago off seaham south pier in september using fresh crab ,everycast a good cracking bite ended up with quite a few cod biggest bout 6lb,there was quite a few people on the pier and there was,nt a fish between them the the only reason i can think i was the only one with fish was i had crab no one else did it was unbelievable

16lb cod from the long sands a couple of weeks ago best before that 10lb cod from hartley skeer many moons ago got it one sunday morning on a huge spring tide fishing right off the end of the skeer in a flat calm sea only downer about it the wife got one 13,1/2 lb cod same morning and lost a one that would have put both fish to shame.

Best fish is an 8lb 9oz cod from Cambois this year. My best day was when i was abuot 14, 10 years ago now in Blyth harbour of all places. The sea was too big to fish the pier so me and my mate went to the harbour, I ended up with 20 codling up to 5lb, about 40 size whiting and a 4lb coalie. Bring back those days!!!

Best fish

When i was about 13 - 14 yrs (over 30 yrs ago) old had loads of king rag fishing off the Heugh. Rod was up against rail baited up with two big worms on one hook. It was at the end of the pier when i was fannying about not paying much attention. Suddenly some bloke grabbed my rod as it basically got pulled downwards and would have went overinto the sea. The guy struck and reeled it in and i handlined it up the side it was a big Cod on the end as i recall about 7 lb. Then i got another big fish which i reeled in, the same bloke who had reeled my rod in earlier handlined it up the side but it fell off. I chuntered on and on complaining until the bloke told me to shut up or he would hoy my 7 pounder back in. Being a lad i packed my stuff and went home. I remember getting on the bus with this massive fish in a carrier bag with its tail bobbing about.

I wonder if i will ever beat this now i,m back fishing. Hopefully i,ll pull a big un on a boat in 2007.

lol

In the good old days fish were too big for a carrier. I remember helping my dad haul fish off the beach, gilled and strung over his 1 be 2 rod rest, carried between us like cartoon cannibals taking a priest home for the pot.

I'm sure I remember that.
