Best rigs for flatties?

Ok - after last nights success (which may have been more down do luck than skill) I'm keen to repeat it.

What are the rigs best suited to fishing for flatties?

Do people prefer booms? a running ledger set-up? the list could be endless I know - but sometimes people have their own little systems.....

One or two up, one down, with an avis boom just above the sinker to prevent tangles.

Bottom snood about 24 inches, 15lb mono, other snood(s) about 18 inches.

Hooks either size 1 or 2.

I have been trying to perfect a two hook running ledger, but without any luck so far. They're buggers to cast !

as above or wishbone rigs i use size 4 aberdeens as they are cheap so when the fish has the hook right down you just chop the hook off rather than ripping the fishes guts out .

i always use a double boom rig on the pier when not casting too far.

i use a 2 hook flapper with size 0/1 on. 3ft Main body 20lb with 2 snoods on 10lb line the top 1 10inch down the main body from the top (2ft long) the 2nd snood 6inchs from the bottom (5ft long ) put 8/10 beads on each snood & stop knott. the longer the snood the beter m8 :red:

I use a running leger with a spoon about 4ins above baited size 1 kamasan b940, you don't need to cast far for flatties i've walked along the beach and picked them up stranded. They're designed for shallow water. Oh and by the way, don't use your lasses best cuttlery for homemade spoons she'll just stop the legover.

Hi mate,
The best rigs i have found useful when fishing of piers where the ground is sandy in Particular the end of Roker pier then i have found clipped down pulley wishbone rigs very useful both hooks baited with worms as any flattie loves luggy or raggy these rigs incorparate a 3ft to 4ft lenght of 60lb leader a genie link then a impact shield slided on the line and add a bead and a crimp above the shield, then add a swivel and then a bead after you have done this, then add another swivel at the top of the 60lb line then with this swivel this is your hooklenghts attachments, i preferably use amnesia thick stuff for this a lenght of about a foot- foot and a half and after this add a swivel then with this swivel have a lenght of thin amnesia have theis in an equal upside down u shape this is the actual wishbone, i usually add a bead on either side then a crimp on either side and then equal lenghts of tubing and then sequences and then crimps then your hooks. When you have done this test it with a weight to make sure both hooks clip onto the impact shield rather tight so it unclips when its casted out and both of you baits are tighted together. This rig works amazing on clean sandy beaches for Dabs, Plaice and flounders and is also a great rig for lobbying into the surf for the Bass. For some reason though i haven't had much success in Estuarys for flounders. Hope this information helps mate.
