Im looking to get myself a rod and reel that will do both beach and rock fishing.leaning towards a mulipler reel.Any help to what might suit would be much appreciated.I used to do a lot of beach and rock fishing when i was younger but obviously rods and reels have come a long way since then.

What is your budget? Reel wise for an allrounder you won't go far wrong with a Penn 525, bit more choice when it comes to rods depending on what you want to spend.

Reelsport responce for the rod, i would go for a penn 535, a saltish 30 or slosh 30 for the reel, dont get me wrong the 525 is a cracking reel, i use one on the beach but if i could only have 1 reel i'd go for the bigger option as an alrounder

iv got the response and its a lovely all rounder also got an apollo mark 1 but thats just for fishing the rough stuff and for over the winter time. i think the apollo would be better for rough marks and for pulling fish through kelp, but the response will do the same its much better for casting has a very stiff tip but the butt has a little bit of give in it. have to say i like the response more though. just didnt want to drop it around the rocks so got an apollo for that :P and i use a 525 mag all the time everywhere i go so its a lovely all round reel, i like it more then my 6500 for casting and like it better than my 7000 for reeling in couldnt live with out it. it broke last week so i thought i would have to take time off fishing untill i fixed it but i fixed it the same night with abit oil and just baught the super mag extra for a spare :)

There are loads of rods depending on the budget and choice but my all round reel would be a Penn 535 one being it is a great strong reel and will hold a decent amount of 30/35lb line both for rocks and rough beaches you also have the extra line that in the event of having to pull for a break or a snap off then there is always plenty left on spool.
My personal choice of rod is a century ttr but not a cheap rod.

A good combo that will fish equally well on the beach or rough ground, in my opinion would be the Slosh 30 and a Sonik SK3 14ft 5-7oz, have used this for a couple of years now and never had any problems.

I think it's down to personal choice tbh but for me either a century kompressor ss or tip tornado gp and the reels slosh 20 or 6500 mag

penn 525 with a top end century or zziplex rod if your after quality, thats in a nutshell mate, but a lot of factors will dictate which rod suites you.

Hi thanks to all that's replied it looks like everyones got different ideas on both rod a reel combinations and it seems it's down to each ones own preference as to the best.now all I have to do is find some for sale.

I use a kompressor wr300 personally but for a proper all rounder i would get a tip tornado sport, gran prixs are like rocking horses sh**e now. Reel wise the slosh 30 is the one i would go for mate, it casts well and is great for the the rough stuff imho. But at the end of the day it depends on how much you have to spend bearing in mind you could always buy second hand too. Hope this helps ;)

In the real world a Sonik SK4 5-7 oz is a magic rod for winter, and either 525 or Slosh 30/equivalent

A bit lighter could be a standard carbon metal if you just intend to hit the beach. Cast further with the Sonik tho.

The Kompressor SS/GP's/WR's are all pokers for casters or v heavy duty.

If your looking for a good set up, I would recommend an abu 7000 (with level wind), to start off with until you get used to the reel & laying line, rod - try & get hold of a century g5 - apollo mk2 - or even a ron thompson axcellerator, as these rods will suit you down to the ground, hope im pointing you in the right direction. the choice is yours !

Hi thanks for the advice and I think your right a 7000 is what I'll look for

Well at least you know which reel your after ! What about a rod, as many people have put up some great ideas on rods .

Hi I've decided to go and take s look in the tackle shops at some of the rods mentioned then see if I can Pick one of them up second hand.as I don't really have the funds at present to buy new.
