sickening he only got 200 quid for it - said he did not want the money yeah right just like the dick does not want the publicity. This shark apparently was alive just caught in the net so was in my view killed without the need to do so.

You only have to look at the face of the guy sat on it and realise what sort of moronic idiot the shark came across.

Maybe my views are wrong - i hope so and welcome anyone to prove me otherwise.

The shark was caught in a legally set t net aimed at salmon, and the guy had all the right permits. So yep it was all legal.

Morally... that shark was probably fifty years old so there wont be one to replace it for a similar time as opposed to cod that grow fast and reproduce quickly.

It really bugs me that he got 200 quid for a 1000lb fish...thats 50p a lb and a one off. I pay 300 quid a day to fish for sharks...and thats repeatable.

Its time the government woke up to who is worth more to the uk economy ...us anglers or the commercials.

We can do something by all asking for a golden mile and banning nets inshore...but in this case it would not have helped as the t nets are legal and considered enviromentally friendly.

Sharks are out there off our shores and I have found some video I thought I had lost and will post it up soon.

Cant really see how a golden mile rule could help sharks.

Yes maybe it would work for cod stocks etc,to ban gill netting inside 1 mile,but cant see its relevance to sharks.

Some of the best trout runs are only 200 yards from the beach,so by banning these fisherman,you jeopardise there income.

I fished on a salmon boat for 6 summers and i can safely say ,you have more chance netting a shark in deeper water than in the shallows,no question.

only thing we ever caught in shallow water with the drift net was,trout ,puffer fish and fanny pads.
