Bite Detection

I don't know about you but I go cross eyed after five minutes of staring at the tip of me fishing rod waiting for a bite...you end up convincing yourself you've got a bite - but really it's just that your left eye has crossed over into the other socket and you're about to fall over coz your inner ear has just collapsed from the strain...

So what other options are there for bite detection?

Has anyone got any ingenious ideas?

Keep a hold of your rod Tony. If I am fishing a match I rarely use a rod rest mate. If not, get a bright rod tip light that suits your eyes, different colours affect people differently.

They reckon the easiest way is to fish with two rods. I tried this last year and did,nt really enjoy it. It is so you can compare the movement of the rod tips.
Mind i was using two hooks on the rigs of each rod.
Bought a top dollar rod stand at the end of the season so i will probably use two rods in the future. (even if ones a cheapy loaded with squid).I bought s cheap fixed spool off e-bay for £8 and now i,m looking for another beachcaster.

Bells are ok. I just keep losing mine when i strike.

When i,m up the resevoir i use the electric alarm. Its a small back contraption which screws into your rod rest. Movement of the line turns a small wheel backwards or forwards and makes the thing buzz loudly.

Not much good for the sea as to much movement.

the blue tip light is my worst as it blurs and i start seeing two lights lol

I know what you mean mark, i use a blue tip light aswell , dont have a problem when im out fishing but our lass goes off on one when i jump up at daft o clock in the morning shouting im in! When i realise im not fishing i still get the double blue dots tho!
