Black lug

Thanks for the info gents, I don't mind spending the money if it is going to be good stuff, it means I can have bait in the freezer and go fishing at the drop of a hat.

Can anyone else answer these questions.

Would frozen black lug like this fish as well as fresh ragworm?

Can you refreeze any bait you don't use?

the blacks do refreeze well if not used ,but better to take enough for a session maybe in a wide flask and keep frozen ,and refreeze what odd ones are left that defrosted

On it's day the frozen black worm will sometimes fish better than fresh worm. I had no confidence in it at all a few years ago but due to a problem one day that was all I could get. I caught a couple of Codling for just over 10 lb from the west pier and always take it with me now. That said I would still prefer to have fresh worm too, especially from Blyth beach. It goes straight back into the freezer when I get home too.

Iv'e actually bought worm from Vincent, and still have four packs in the freezer, it is first class worm, about 10-12 inches long, tarry black and sticky and a great stand by bait it stays on the hook very well, and as Jim says you can bang what you dont use back in the freezer. and ive had fish on it too, no great size but it proves it appeals to them. it arrives frozen, wrapped in polythene and newpaper and mine was just starting to soften when it arrived so make sure you are in to receive it, but that aside, I highly recommend it.

Frozen blacks are great cocktailed with mussel/crab in the winter in the right sea conditions, but best on a pennel rig to stop them looking like Nora Battys socks. :)

Craig i sometimes buy a pack of ten from NE Tackle at Hartlepool.
It is gutted black lugworm,or runnydown. The worm is usually about ten inches in length. I used to dig it when it was common at Hartlepool but now it has been dug out round there.
Years ago my uncle used to dig his own and gut and roll it in newspaper and freeze it.
It is an excellent bait for cod.its sticks to your hook like glue but when cast a few times looks like a washed up joh-y
I load a worm onto the hook first and then maybe put squid and rag on and tip off with razer. Its a great cocktail bait.
I,m considerably richer these days than when i was a kid so £4 a pack is,nt to bad.
I,m down pool tomorrow visiting relatives and if the sea is ok i,ll have a go at fishing.
Fresh rag, squid and razer and macky is the order of the day. Not really bothered about the runny.
On a final note fresh runny is still dug round the blue lagoon on very low tides. I have seen lads on the pier with the worm still alive in buckets of salt water. Looks top stuff.

Meant to say i would not be happy just using frozen runny. Much prefer fresh rag/lug. However if this was an only option as a cocktail bait with squid razer or mussel it is still a very very good bait.
