First time out for me since mid-September and my first club match in almost four years today. Decided against the pier and thought I'd chance it on the Blast what with the bit of swell and good colour to the sea.

Probably not the best idea in hindsight, was hard yakker today and bloody freezing with it. 5 hours fishing for a couple of bites and this feller that came about an hour into the ebb and saved the blank:

Unfortunately he was about quarter of a centimetre too small to make the weigh in so back he went to fight another day.

Baits used were lug, bluey and squid. Coalie came to bluey on a two hook flapper which I was alternating with a big bluey / squid wrap. The big fish baits did draw a couple of bites but that was just little fish attacking the bait I reckon. Crabs were also very active, worm baits especially were being stripped in 10 - 15 minutes.

Still, was good to be out and blow the cobwebs off and I enjoyed the match aspect of things. Were a few other rods down the end of the beach but most lads saw sense and packed up for home early. Certainly didn't see anything else caught and the consensus from those who trudged past me was that it was s***e. Maybe next weekend I'll be more sensible and draw a pier peg...

I was on Noses today mate in Comp and had nine of them just undersized Coleys out, moved To the Chemical Beach when the wind got up half time and pulled out a size Codling last cast which was just smaller than Geordies which got him heaviest fish
