Fished blyth pier today 20/8/10 from 10am to 3.30pm, not many people on at all so i got to fish the end for the first time, i got a undersized coley and a small whiting as well as feeling a knock then reeling in and finding only a fishes head possibly a small whiting whatever had hit it must have only missed the hook by millimetres, the weather today was rough there was a brief period of sunshine around lunch time and the sea swell was quite big.
there was two lads there when me and my friend got there, they caught similar to myself and one of them got a lobster about 1.5-2lbs, these two lads gave us good company and also left us some mackerel strips for bait
My friend also managed to catch a small whiting and then a weaver fish which he was terrified of, all said a good day out hard to explain why but thats fishing for you.

unlucky but i think it would of been a seal as theres afew around bylth peir. you would of had a half decent fight on your hands if you hooked into that :D
ah would feel dreadfull if i had caught a seal with a hook, i have read here that some off the lads that fish further up the coast are plagued by them and its a race to get your fish in when you catch something, but as said i'd be worried about hurting them, i always enjoy feeding them when im coming back on the boat trips.

Ihave always done well on blyth pier, normally about 40 yards from the end, it's comfortable fishing & you never know what your going to catch or lose, roll on the winter !
