Got there an hour before high tide, sea was like a milk pond and not a soul in sight.
wasnt looking good at all but within 20 mins me old man pulled out a decent whiting on lug alone. i was using mussel, razor, macky, squid, rag and lug in all sorts of combinations and seemed to getting no where before landing a small flatty. he pulled in a wee flatty himself, i pulled a codling and a good size dab, he managed another small codling and a little flatty then it died off. left about 21:30.
Dab got filleted, battered and deep fried along with chips and curry sauce. i usualy throw flatties back but never again, they might look ugly and are a bit slimy but ill not be throwing them back so quick next time :0)

Canny session mate good that you enjoyed your fish as well, dabs are tasty but as for flounders a wouldn't bother just chuck em back

cudo been a flounder for all i know. lol
the reason i thought dab was the lateral line which has a pronounced curve.
anyone confirm either way?

Definitely a dab mate -good size too, by the look of it. As someone posted, they are a lovely tasting fish (hugely underrated). Flouders are a copletely different "kettle of fish", if you'll pardon the pun. As someone pointed out - no matter how you cook flouders, they never taste good. Well my opinion anyway.

It's a dab - good sized ones aren't as common as they used to be around Blyth. I used to like them pan-fried in butter - cooked whole, on the bone & dusted with seasoned flour. Well tasty, a bit like the humble whiting; but like others I'm not really a fan of flounder.

Definitely a Dab!
I love them in fish cakes!
Loads of them in the Tyne up to Smiths and then it seems to be all Flounders after that.

It's just one of those places that never seems to work for me, seen lots of good fish come off it but never me.!! Beach still fishes well. I enjoy 4am light rod and reel , light line, long snood , drilled bomb lead and whole peeler for the bass.

i started fishing september and Blyth pier for me has been cracking. ive had size cod, colie, whiting and dab. its been a great place to learn the basics. Santa is fetching me a tripod so im looking forward to hitting the beaches soon. How in hell can ya fail for so long on the pier? what ya using for bait - tomato soup? lol

Used to be a cracking shot. You could bag up on coalies from the end, pollock from the pier legs and a bonus lobster from the river side.
But just hasn't thrown anything my way for years.
