does anyone fish the pier regularly ?, and if so what would be the best place to fish from .is it a case of whoever gets there first gets the top / end bit ? and is it best to cast into the sea or inside the pier , also how far do you need to cast out or do you just drop it over the side ? , i suspect its a case of trying all them and seeing witch is best . sorry if this a daft question ...many thanks davey

i asked billfish the same question a while back he told me to fish near the bend and start casting short, gradually increasing the distance till you find the fish. hope this helps mate.

Dont just think the end is the best with it being the furthest point,if there is a big sea running try fishing into the breakers half way along or depending on how big the tide is.
The bend in the pier is also good,if you do fish the end try casting towards St Marys Lighthouse,no need for big casts but bare in mind there is heavy kelp all along the pier so you'll need at least 30 yards to clear this and then its still mixed ground,the straight stretch on the Seaton Sluice side before you get to the bend is sandy/clean but there still kelp in front of you.On a south eastery or southerly sea/wind try casting into the river side to the left of the Red Navigation Light,this is mixed ground here,the stretch of rocks from the Red Light to the shore is Peeping Toms Rocks and also worth fishing from but be careful of the swells pushing into the river when the tide turns,there no fishing allowed from the Old Pier above Peeping Toms.Worm,Mackerel,razor and mussel baits seem to work best never had much luck using crab from the pier

Sure the more regular pier-fishers can help more with this but I remember the guys in Temples (now Fraser's) in Whitley used to say that there were good Plaice to be had from the bend in the pier casting seaward side. I think they are
around from May. If it's calm might be worth a go. (Hasten to add I never caught one the few times Ive been on there)

There's some good advice here, my advise would be don't think the further along the pier you are the better the fishing, I usually fish well before you reach the bend and I've caught fish up to 8lb and I've seen even bigger fish than that caught closer to the beach then where I was fishing.

Distancewise, I think it's completely pot luck, if your not catching at one distance try another, if you do hit on cast back the the same spot, if the fish are there they get taken from any distance.

Seen a few Plaice caught from the end casting towards St Marys Lighthouse
