Blyth Pier

Been to the pier today.
Absolutely nothing doing except my ill temper.
Some very nice considerate commercial fishermen have been ever so kind and have placed a nice big net about 45 meters off the seaward side of the pier from about 20 metres off the beach right past the bend and then round towards Seaton Sluice!!!:mad::mad:

3 rd cast and my spinner (brand new as well!:() ended up in it.

If anyone knows who they are could you please ask them to it please as it is now well and truly tangled up in said net. They can post it back to me or drop in and visit

yep there the ones i was complaining about but last time i went they were well away from peir. as somone said they have a licence so theres nothing we can do about it

Yep same tale every year but as has been said, its all legal so nothing can be done.
I have seen one end of the line of nets on the beach before at low water

net unattended - been there all day as far as I know - orange buoy either end with small cigar floats the entire length in a shallow "j" shape from the beach end of the pier right up past the bend and out towards Seaton Sluice.
Would love to see it removed or chopped up into tiny pieces and Burnt!

The same topic pops up every year about Blyth Pier!!
I have it from a good source that them nets DO NOT effect the mackerel fishing what so ever.Last year when they were there they only had a couple of mackerel caught in the nets all summer!!

They might catch Mackerel in them but they certainly catch spinners, daylights etc - Anyone know if anyone's been selling them secondhand at the Car boots recently - I could do with saving some money (wor lass has been nagging me about it):D:D:D:D:D

No seriously what they do is prevent anglers who want to cast any distance from doing so and if you're not on the end of the pier you can't catch mackerel if the nets are stopping you casting for them.

Anyways taking a break from the coast for a few days - Off to Kielder for some peace and quiet - going to do some "fluffchucking" and think I might teach some worms to swim while I'm there:)

was there yesterday afternoon for a few hours and same bother with the net. in fact, i was fishing on the bend and at one point there was literally only 20 yards tops of water to cast into,(cost me a couple of spinners too) i ended up moving 40 or so yards back down the pier. what can they possibly gain by placing the net so close to the pier? why not set it 100 yds from the pier? they're just doing it for bad in my opinion. within the space of 4 hours from 1 till 5 they set and hauled the net at least 3 times:question::question: rumour has it they're after sea trout ......................

any way, no mackeral about, but managed a few small poddlers, a walloping greet eel of about 2lbs:o:o (first off the pier) and a fish of about 8" long resembling a herring

If they're after sea Trout they aren't very nice people at all - License or not, they will catch a lot of other species in a net like that - any codling, pollack or coaleys over 9" long will also get snagged up in the net as well.

Plus the sea trout in blyth aren't exactly there in great numbers!

I think Kermit, miss piggy, gonzo and fozzy bear covers what I think about them.
