I never try to free a snag by wrapping line round hands or anything else, just point the rod in the direction of the line and hold the spool till the line snaps.
Ditto here , wind down tight to the water , point the rod straight at the snag , thumb on the reel spool and pull , it either comes free , snaps a hook off or breaks at the rig knot. We used to wrap the line around hands (with a towel or glove ) and pull but it's very easy to snap at the hand doing that , and 200ft of braid every other drift is an expensive day out
