boat fishing with shads?

Fished with Big Cod on Sea Otter 2 last year, think it was the first week in march and had the best day fishing (quantity wise) in all my life. Done ok this year also april onwards.

In reply Tone .... I think a resounding "YES", if you think back we always had best results with the royd shrimp lures or royd regill type lure at that time of year .... a shad in the making :) ...........
but lets not forget the rest of this year first ..... new secret weapons will be ready for this weekend (not shads ..... well, not ALL shads)

:)

alan,buy a wave blaster rod 12 to 20 class
unlike the kekasaki they dont snap .

Gary, they dont have enough grunt for wreck fishing which is the only fishing we do. Even with 20-30lb class rods we often get dusted by big fish.

You have only a few seconds to prise a big fish out of a wreck or it is goodnight Vienna. No 12 to 20 class rod I know can do that :exclam:

Dave Bruce bought 2 new Sonik 20-30 class SK4s for him and Andrew (his crewman) to use. These are supposedly the dogs cogs braid rods for 2010 and as good as kenzakis.

The reality is they are too tippy/progressive and dont have enough action for 4-5" shads. I can dust the pair of em' for fun with shads

They are a very nice hand built job though and a better all round rod. When spinners or light jiggers are working they dust me all day long.

I only use a 8lb-10lb class rod and have done for 12 years with no problems at all, landed 3 fish over 30lb and it has always managed to bully the fish off the wreck. ALlso pumped in pots and a 15ft square net :)

It depends on the size of the wreck and what surrounds it. I bet you have never fished one 8 storeys high surrounded by nets :exclam:
