Boat paint

Hi lads I'm after some info on boat paint!!!! I'm wanting to paint top half of
Boat !! Like cabin and the surrounding top half !! It's fibreglass ? It's blue
At the min but wanting it red any ideas on which paint to use !! I was told to
Use normal gloss as it's hard wearing and durable??? I'm a painter by trade
But none expert on the boat paint side of things

Is the boat gel coat in such a bad condition that it needs painting as a painted boat is far less valuable than one which is in original gel coat?

Also I would advise using marine paint and the correct primer but it is very expensive
