Boat Recommendations

Can anybody recommend GOOD charter boats in Yorks, specifically Whitby, my experiences of Brid and Scarboro\' leave a LOT to be desired. I have used 3 or 4 of the Whitby boats and have been pleased with a couple of them. I haven\'t used any of the fast boats yet and wondered if they cost any more than the normal \'plodders\' and if so are they worth it ?

have been on several whitby boats and the experience varies greatly one fast boat has come in early each time and still expected full payment, one skipper has fished for himself alowing all others on board just to get on with it etc. Heartbeat was a good boat old skipper been around a while and worked the boat well for the fish and achates was great good crew good fishing positions(all seated down one side) the only problem with her is she is a bit slow but there are plenty of marks that she gets too within 1 to 2 hours steaming. Best thing to do is get down there and talk to lads coming off the boats for their views.

Been a couple of years since I fished Whitby, but if you can get Enterprise(if it\'s still going) you won\'t go far wrong  :D

Both of the fast boats Shytorque and Seatrek have good skippers who will try to find the fish if there are any. Of the medium to slower boats the one I have used for the last 5 years is Sea Otter, skipper Paul. He might be the one that was refered to as the one who fishes, but to me this means that he will do everything he can to find the fish, and usually does.

sea trek is the one is said comes in early each time i have gone on her. sea otter is the other one i refered to - i agree with your commets davsut but when you have a party of office workers onboard for a team build you need the skipper to help with the untangling etc and not necessarily fish for himself(i acknowledge he has a living to make).

Shame you could not head up north abit, there is the JFK from the Tyne and the Top Cat from blyth, both are very good boats and do well every season, both fast and have helpfull skippers and crew.

also mate all the hartlepool boats are reasonable - difference is that the tyne and pool boats charge on average 20 quid less than the whitby boats for fishing that is on a par of better at times.

Try Tallisman or Mistress both out of Royal Quays (from the Tyne), their numbers are available if you wish

I agree, Norman - I can\'t comment on Andy (Tallisman) as I\'ve not been out with him, but I can certainly recommend Tony (Mistress) - especially for the novice anglers. I\'ve had a number of trips out on Mistress with a few of the lads from work and their young sons, and Tony\'s always there ready to untangle lines, show how to tie your rig on, land your catch with the net, etc., etc.

Fast boat, too  :P

got to agree im a tyne convert , fished whitby for the last 3 to 4 years and not been particularly good , since joining the board we fished aboard sarah jfk last year . this year and booked all trips for next year . i live in wakefield (west yorkshire) and it is quicker to drive to north shields a1i , a19 than it is to drive to whitby. fishing is also betterand the locals who have joined our party to make numbers up have also been excellent.

Try Achates. Great skipper and a big comfortable boat. Contact details are in Sea Angler. Despite yacking my guts up for most of the last trip Russ (the skipper) couldn\'t do enough to help.

I you go to the main site, click open comps, go to August, you will see the Whitby and H/pool skippers open results.Might give you some sort of clue as to where or what you want to do. :D :D

You also have Topcat out off blyth very fast and he always gets good reports of excellent catchs, not sure how much he charges but worth a look.It seems to me that when Ive visited Whitby just for a day out,the boats are only out for a short time 3 hours and thats from leaving to getting back.I think at least traveling all that way you want the full day at it.

Wasn\'t there a NESA trip out of Whitby on \"Enterprise\" last year (or was it the year before?).

Maybe some of those who took part can advise, here.

well you lot we used to travel to brid (45 miles) whitby70 miles but after years of been a bit disapointed we tried hartlepool 85 miles and what a change free parking tackle shop was also a cafe and a lot cheaper and more fish we used to use the esk star formerly a whitby boat but he moved when his boat was cut loose in the harbour i belive but i dont know who\'s got it now but i would def forget whitby and brid got to monkey hanging land

I think it was Tony who mentioned the Talisman from the Royal Quays....you\'ll find that the catches from this boat have been very good this year. great skipper as well!!

I\'m slightly biased but give the Pooly boats a go,maybe after the Geordie ones,IMO you\'ll probably find they are both better than Whitby and cheaper. :D :D
