Boat Reels, Is Big Best ?

Is the 525 used off the beach or boat Dave....
I once won a 535 uptide in the Fife Open and sold it on, thought it was the 6:1 model....wish i kept it now...:(

Rods/Reels

Rods/Reels

Just invested in a couple of Penn Torq 100s/ABU 6-10 uptide rods(last year), you can go anywhere and do anything with them. Loaded up with 50lb Power Pro dacron (18lb mono) used them on the wrecks, shadding, uptiding and downtiding and they took it all.
No more changing over rods/reels to go on the wrecks, same combo for everything !!!!.
little expensive on the outlay but when your wrecking and bait fishing and you only need one set of gear on the boat - oh well whatever!!!!
Looking forward to another good season, just applied for my Tyne area fishing visa - fingers crossed it will come through !!!!!!.

Dave.

FYI - Got all the gear from Mainwarings - really good deal.

I've used Speedmasters for years with no problems. I use a Speedmaster 4 on wrecks with 50lb braid. A Speedmaster 3 for shore rock cod fishing and occasional medium boat/reef filled with 35lb mono. And a Speedmaster 2CFS for general/light boat filled with 20lb braid. The 2CFS has that peculiar Shimano "Fighting star drag" system fitted. It's a combination lever drag/star drag. It's perfect for the pollack fishing. Never a snap off on the take. Like most others have said here, set your drag to suit your tackle, and the reel will handle the strain no bother. It's the numpties with the drag screwed up tight who then try to break out a snagged lead just using the reel, instead of a piece of broom handle, that have the problems. The real benefits of the 6:1 ratio is its so much easier and quicker to retrieve back up from deep water for re-baiting etc, instead of the eternity with a low ratio reel. Wouldn't change mine for anything else.

Alright Harry long time no speak !!!!
Yeah we are doing OK, at work at present looking for more
of the black stuff to keep your cars and boats running Ho! Ho!.
Are you still on the other side with the yellow welly brigade or
did you manage to get the vessel across this side.
Anyway you know were the boat is and your still welcome to days
fishing if you can catch me when I am home.

Dave

Hi Jester,
The uptiders are 9ft 6in, tried it for a laugh at first now thats all I use.
Mind those Penn Torq 100s with 50lb Power Pro and a 60lb shockleader on
are something else, shockleader takes all the stick on the wrecks.

The uptide rods i use are 10' 6" so the rods you are using are a medium between the boat and uptide types. Sounds good and a nice bend in it as well i bet...:D I'll have a look at the penn reels, might even treat myself..:D
